Emmy-winning actor Louie Anderson dead at age 68

Louie Anderson, a three-time Emmy Award winner, comedian and game show host, died on Friday morning after a battle with cancer, his publicist told Deadline. He was 68.

The star of the comedy series “Baskets” died in Las Vegas, where he was admitted into a hospital earlier this week for treatment of diffuse large B cell lymphoma, publicist Glenn Schwartz told the entertainment publication.

Anderson was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy Series, winning one in 2016 for his role as Christine Baskets on the FX series.

He also won two Daytime Emmys for outstanding performer in an animated program for “Life with Louie,” a program that aired on Fox in 1997 and 1998.

Adam Sandler tops Forbes list of Hollywood’s most overpaid actors

LOS ANGELES | American comedian Adam Sandler topped Forbes’ list of Hollywood’s most-overpaid actors, commanding a high up-front fee while delivering middling returns, the magazine said on Monday.

Sandler, 47, the star of recent comedies “Jack & Jill” and “That’s My Boy,” dethroned Eddie Murphy for the dubious distinction. Forbes estimated that Sandler’s last three films returned an average of $3.40 for every dollar he was paid.

Murphy topped last year’s list, returning an average of $2.30 at the box office for each dollar earned.

Katherine Heigl, who starred in the poorly performing films “Killers” and “One for the Money,” placed slightly behind Sandler, returning an average of $3.50 per every dollar she earned.

The list, compiled annually by Forbes, counts the last three films an actor has starred in over the past three years. This year’s list was cut off at June 1, and so it excluded Sandler’s buddy comedy “Grown Ups 2,” which was released in July and performed well at the box office.

Forbes did not say how much Sandler earned on his last three films. But the magazine said he was one of the few movie stars who could still command more than $15 million per film, on an “up front” arrangement. Hollywood studios in recent years have shifted to paying smaller up-front fees and tie actors’ pay with the film’s box office performance.

The magazine said it examined actors’ pay, film budgets and expenses to calculate the average return an actor brings per dollar paid.

Reese Witherspoon, the star of recent films “Water for Elephants” and “This Means War,” was third on this list, with an average return of $3.90 for every dollar she was paid.

Nicholas Cage was fourth, with a $6 average return, and comedian Kevin James was fifth, returning an average of $6.10.

‘Fast & Furious’ star dies in car crash while holding charity event for Yolanda victims

Actor Paul Walker died in a car crash in Southern California on Saturday afternoon, according to TMZ.com. He was 40 years old.

Citing multiple sources close to Walker,  the report said the star of the “Fast and the Furious” movies and an unidentified companion died immediately after the new Porsche GT they were riding “slammed into a post or a tree … and then the car burst into flames”.

A post on his Facebook page confirmed the news and said his companion was driving the car.

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences,” the message said.

Walker was in Santa Clarita, a city located 53 kilometers north of Los Angeles, attending a car show to raise money for typhoon victims in the Philippines.

The car show was a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide, the disaster relief organization he founded in 2010 after joining earthquake relief efforts in Chile and Haiti. Reach Out Worldwide has sent medical teams to areas in the Visayas ravaged by supertyphoon Yolanda.

Last week, the actor and his co-stars on ‘Fast & Furious 7″appealed to fans of the film series to donate to the relief efforts in the Philippines in a video shot on the set of the film and uploaded to YouTube by Reach Out Worldwide.

Walker made his film feature debut in the 1998 comedy “Meet the Deedles”, followed by supporting roles in “Pleasantville”, “Varsity Blues”, “She’s All That” and “The Skulls”.

His breakthrough role came in 2001′s “The Fast and the Furious” as Brian O’Conner, an undercover detective who infiltrates the street race scene in Los Angeles to help solve a series of semi-trailer truck hijackings in the area.

The film turned into a franchise that released its sixth installment earlier this year. In May, Walker and co-stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez came to Manila to attend the Asian premiere of “Fast & Furious 6″.

It was not yet known if he had finished filming “Fast & Furious 7″, which is set for release on July 14, 2014.

‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith enters addiction treatment facility

NEW YORK – “Glee” star Cory Monteith has entered a rehabilitation facility where he is being treated for an unspecified substance addiction, his publicist said on Monday.

Monteith, who plays Finn on the popular Fox television series, “asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery,” the publicist’s statement said.

The statement said Monteith’s decision to seek treatment at the facility was voluntary. It offered no details on the nature of the addiction other than that it was a “substance addiction.”

The Canadian actor has starred on the musical series since 2009 as singing jock Finn Hudson, but was expected to be absent from the show’s final episodes later this season.

Lea Michele, Monteith’s girlfriend and “Glee” co-star, issued a statement saying, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

In recent years Monteith has openly discussed having had what he characterized as a serious drug problem during his early teenage years, and entered a treatment facility at age 19.

20th Century Fox Television, a subsidiary of News Corp., also issued a statement of support saying the show looked forward to his return.

John Prats stages golf invitational, admits dating Isabel Oli

John Prats is in love.

And it’s not just with Isabel Oli, the actress he admits he is currently dating but also with the game of golf, of which he has become an avid enthusiast.

“Si Zanjoe Marudo ang unang nag-encourage sa ‘kin ng sport na ito. At first, akala ko boring siya pero the more I played it, the more I was challenged by it. Nung nagsisiumula pa lang ako, sa driving range muna kasama ko si Jayson Gainza. Then later, before I knew it, we were already playing on the fairways at least once a week,” the 29-year old actor slash comedian confessed during the press conference for the 1st John Prats Cup Golf Tournament Friday.

Happening on February 22, 2013 at the Eastridge Golf and Country Club, the tournament is designed to be a charity sports event, the proceeds of which will go to the rehabilitation of the Holy Trinity Parish in Cainta, Rizal, as well as the Kanlungan ni Maria, a residential institution for the aged.

Having invited his friends from in and out of showbiz, including Ariel Rivera, Smokey Manaloto, Ogie Alcasid, Sam Milby, Bea Alonzo and sister Camille Prats, John expects the invitational will be an auspicious gathering of fellow celebrity golfers, corporate personalities and distinguished names from local government.

“I also invited everyone from my TV show, ‘Banana Split’ but the general public and pretty much everyone is welcome to participate,” he stressed. “There is an entrance fee of P2,000 per player for those who want to join.”

Asked if actor Derek Ramsay, who is also known to be a close friend of his is invited, John answered in the affirmative.

“Yes, I invited Derek but I don’t he could make it that day because he has a taping for ‘Kidlat’. Sayang nga eh,” he replied.

John acknowledges that comparisons with the celebrated Goma Cup celebrity golf tournaments organized by Richard Gomez are inevitable. But while his own invitational golffest is nowhere near the magnitude of the Goma Cup, which incidentally has not been heard from for quite a while, John said he is hoping that his tournament will eventually pick up where the former left off.

“It’s too early to say whether puwede na kaming ikumpara sa Goma Cup, but I do hope I can organize this again next year depending on the response and the number of participants that sign up for this initial endeavor,” he added.

As to whether Isabel Oli and all his other ex-girlfriends, including Shaina Magdayao, Heart Evangelista and Bianca Manalo, are also invited to play in the tournament, John smiled and said he doesn’t think any of them actually plays golf.

“Isabel will be there, though but she won’t play,” he quipped.

With the subject shifting to his lovelife, John was asked if he ever had awkward moments with his exes given that they all belong to the same industry and eventually bump into each other from time to time.

“Oo naman, lalo na pag kaka-break up pa lang. But eventually we ended up becoming friends, and we make it a point to at least say hello and make small talk ‘pag nagkikita sa mga shows. Si Heart medyo last year lang kami ulit naging okay but since sabay kami ng birthday (February 14) we do make it a point to greet each other kahit via text,” the actor revealed.

Speaking of his birthday, did he celebrate it with Isabel?

“I actually celebrated it with my family. But Isabel was there and brought Lechon Cebu na napakasarap. The family likes her so wala naman kaming problema so far,” he enthused.

So aside from the fact that she is drop dead gorgeous, what is it exactly that John likes about Isabel?

“She’s a simple girl, mabait and more importantly, family-oriented,” he quipped. “And as far as having a family goes, my dad in particular is already pressuring me to have one, especially kids. So that is also what I’m preparing myself for.”

California boy to be arraigned in ‘swatting’ prank on actor Ashton Kutcher

LOS ANGELES – Prosecutors charged a 12-year-old boy on Thursday with making a false emergency call that sent police swarming to the home of actor Ashton Kutcher in a “swatting” prank.

The name of the boy, who was arrested by Los Angeles police in December, was withheld due to his age. He was scheduled to be arraigned in a juvenile court in Los Angeles on Friday.

The trend toward placing false emergency calls is known as “swatting” because SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) officers often are sent to the purported crime scenes. Authorities say such situations can be dangerous due to the risk of a misunderstanding between police and occupants of a building.

The boy has been charged with two felony counts each of making false bomb threats and computer intrusion in connection with the October 3 emergency call that drew police to the Hollywood Hills home of Kutcher, star of the sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” and a similar call on October 10 that sent police to a Wells Fargo Bank.

Authorities have accused the boy of having reported men armed with guns and explosives in Kutcher’s home and that several people had been shot. Dozens of emergency personnel were sent to the house. Kutcher was not home at the time.

Swatting calls in recent months have also sent police to the homes of singers Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

Jason London Arrested for Alleged Bar Fight, Cusses Out Cops and Soils His Pants on Way to Jail, Per Police

It's no wonder Jason London looked a little dazed and confused when he posed for his mug shot.

The 40-year-old actor, who has since taken to Twitter to deny the "crap" being reported, was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct outside a Scottsdale, Ariz., bar after allegedly sneezing on and then slugging a fellow patron.

What, no gesundheit?

But the fun apparently didn't end there.

According to the police report obtained by E! News, London, showing "extreme signs of alcohol impairment," started cursing at the paramedics who were trying to assess him for injuries after the purported altercation inside the Martini Ranch.

Officer D. Ford states in the report that London tried to shove another officer, who then kneed the actor's outer right thigh to get him to sit down. After London had ultimately refused medical treatment, Ford says that he tried to question the Dazed & Confused star, to which he replied, "F--k you! You won't do s--t for me, you f--king hillbilly!"

"I know what you f--king are! F--k you; I want to go home!" London reportedly continued after Ford identified himself as a police officer.

Detailing their ride to the police station, Ford states that London continued to rant, asking him if he liked being a cop and, when the officer didn't answer, saying, "Guess what, f----t? I f--king love this! I f--king own you guys so hard. I'm rich and a motherf--king famous actor! F--king look me up, bitch!"

Ford then states in the report that he "looked back at him just in time for him to lean to the left and defecate in his pants. Then [London] said, 'I told you that I'm happy as s--t!'"

When he tried to question London at the stadium, Ford states, the actor flipped him off with both hands, stuck his tongue out and, asked if he understood his rights, said, "I'm a f--king movie star, I know what the f--k to do!"

Also per the police report, Ford called London's wife, Sophia, to inform her of her husband's arrest, to which she replied, "I know he's an a--hole when he drinks," and insisted that he would never assault anyone on purpose.

London was cited for assault and disorderly conduct and released early Monday morning—and today he denied via Twitter the, er, "crap" that TMZ, which was first to break the news, reported about his arrest.

"Guys, the TMZ report is a total f--king lie," he tweetedthis afternoon. "I got jumped by three 250 pound bouncers. They knocked me out and beat me for several minutes.

"I would neversay or do the crap they are reporting. Have faith in me. The truth will come out and you will see. Some guy thought I was hitting on his girl and had me jumped. My wife was in the next room, had no idea what even happened. I hate Arizona...Wait till you see the real pictures. I have a right orbital fracture and sinus fracture. The truth will win."

Larry Hagman, TV's J.R. Ewing, dies

Larry Hagman, the actor who became one of TV's favorite villains as J.R. Ewing in "Dallas," died Friday at a Dallas hospital, family members said.

Hagman, 81, was in the city to film a new version of "Dallas" for TNT, The Dallas Morning News reported. His family said he had been suffering from cancer.

"Larry was back in his beloved Dallas re-enacting the iconic role he loved most," his family said in a statement. "Larry's family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones."

Hagman, son of Mary Martin, then a 17-year-old future Broadway star, and her then husband, Benjamin Hagman, a Texas district attorney, began his stage career in Dallas. For many years, he was a busy actor appearing on stage, in guest appearances in TV shows and roles in movies like "The Group." He was best-known for his star turn in the situation comedy "I Dream of Jeannie."

In 1977, he was offered the role of J.R. The show, originally a mini-series, ran for 13 seasons on CBS, and Hagman appeared in all 357 episodes. At the height of the show's popularity, an estimated 300 million people in scores of countries watched each episode.

In a memoir, "Hello Darlin,'" Hagman talked of the summer of 1980: "Ronald Reagan was campaigning against Jimmy Carter, American hostages were being held in Iran, Polish shipyard workers were on strike, and all anyone wanted to know was, who shot J.R.?"

Hagman negotiated a new contract getting him $100,000 an episode.

He is survived by his wife, Maj Axelsson, who married him 59 years ago, a son and daughter and five granddaughters.

Affleck’s ‘Argo’ recounts Hollywood role in Iran crisis

LOS ANGELES – Actor-director Ben Affleck’s latest movie tells the incredible story of Hollywood’s role in an attempt to get a group of US diplomats out of Iran during the 1979 hostage crisis.

“Argo,” Affleck’s third film behind the camera, is set against the backdrop of the Iranian revolution and the international standoff in which 52 Americans were held in Tehran for more than a year.

The subject matter has clear topical resonance: the hostage crisis helped eject Jimmy Carter from the White House, and President Barack Obama, battling for re-election, is now facing pressure over attacks on US missions abroad.

But the 40-year-old Hollywood star says it was never his intention for the film – produced by George Clooney and out this weekend in North America, less than four weeks before the November 6 election – to be caught up in politics.

“It was always important to us to let the movie not be politicized. We tried to make it very factual, fact-based, because it was coming up before the election in the US, when a lot of things get politicized,” he said.

The real-life story – which was classified for years, and only became public in 1997 – starts with the US embassy in Tehran being seized by revolutionaries, who went on to hold 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.

The Democratic Carter’s mishandling of the crisis led to his defeat by Republican Ronald Reagan the following year.

As the mission was stormed, a handful of diplomats managed to escape through a secret exit and took refuge in the Canadian embassy. They were out of Iranian hands, but the next question was how to get them out of the country.

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer Tony Mendez proposed a solution, which at first seemed far-fetched, but was eventually accepted.

The idea was to mount a fictitious Hollywood science fiction movie production, ask Tehran for visas to scout for filming locations – and then get the diplomats out of the country disguised as film crew members.

“When I saw the script, I couldn’t believe how good it was,” Affleck told reporters, presenting the movie in Beverly Hills ahead of its release.

“What struck me almost right away was that we had this thriller, and in equal measure this kind of comic Hollywood satire and this really sort of intricate real-life CIA spy story, all based on truth.”

Affleck plays Mendez, a real-life former spy who was heavily involved in the movie’s production and even makes a brief appearance on screen.

“It was really inspiring to meet Tony. He was steeped in this movie. It was Tony’s story, Tony’s point of view,” said Affleck.

“He wanted to meet me at this old famous CIA bar in (Washington district) Georgetown, and he was telling me that it was where (CIA double agent) Aldrich Ames passed names of the American agents in Russia to his Russian handlers.

“When he told me that, it kind of sank in all of a sudden – this was real, this was a real story about a real guy who worked in a real world where real lives were at stake.”

“Argo” maintains a delicate balance of tone as it depicts the Iranian revolution and the violent embassy scenes while also showing how a Hollywood production is put together.

Affleck stressed the importance of historical accuracy.

“Naturally we wanted to be careful and judicious about presenting the facts and also stand firmly behind that, and say that this is an examination of this part of the world,” he said.

“Just because this part of the world is undergoing tumult, doesn’t mean you stop examining it or talking about it. I think that would be a bad thing.”

Martin Escudero bares feelings for Ritz Azul, says not threatened by Derek Ramsay

Martin Escudero has proudly admitted that he has romantic feelings for his “Kapitan Awesome” leading lady Ritz Azul.

Needless to say, the attraction developed on the set of the TV5 fantasy-comedy series, where Martin and Ritz have gotten along famously. The actor said he’s just waiting for the perfect time to woo the voluptuous Kapatid princess formally.

“Imposible naman na hindi tayo magkagusto dun. Tamang timing lang,” Martin remarked, laughing nervously.

Martin said he is encouraged by the strong bond he has formed with Ritz’s father, who always accompanies her on the set of “Kapitan Awesome”.

“Marami kaming napagkakasunduan at pareho kaming Bicolano,” he explained. The actor believes this bond with her father should work to his advantage in his quest to win Ritz’s heart.

He admitted, however, that he seems to be closer to the father than to Ritz herself. “Mas close kami ni daddy kesa kay Ritz. Mas marami kaming napag-uusapan…Para wala nang kalaban.” He laughed. “Joke lang,” he added.

That must be the reason why Martin does not feel threatened now that Ritz has a new highly anticipated superhero series, “Kidlat”, where her leading man is no less than Kapatid hunk Derek Ramsay.

“Hindi naman ako nagseselos kasi malinaw na naman sa amin ni Ritz,” he quipped before breaking into laughter again and adding, “Hindi, joke lang.”

Actress Audra McDonald is a married woman. On Saturday night, the former Private Practice actress exchanged vows in an Esosa dress with Broadway star Will Swenson at their home in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.

Both Broadway veterans, the two met in 2007 and got engaged this past New Year's while on vacation in Puerto Rico.

"Well that was just the best day ever #SadieSadiemarriedlady," McDonald, 42, Tweeted late Saturday.

This is the second marriage for McDonald, 42, and Swenson, 38, who have children with their former spouses. Zac Efron raves about the Philippines on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’

It’s one thing for Zac Efron to say that he loves it in the Philippines while still being in the Philippines. That’s simply good public relations.

But when he still keeps saying the same thing on American national television on no less than the top-rated “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” that is more than public relations, it’s genuine affection.

In the video of the interview segment posted on YouTube by “The Ellen Show” on October 3 (October 4 Manila time), a very animated and visibly excited Zac talked about his recent trip here, particularly his memorable stop at Legaspi City in Albay that preceded his Penshoppe fan conference last Saturday.

“We had lunch on top of a volcano!” Zac exclaimed as he recalled his trip to Mayon Volcano, which his group explored via a helicopter and the all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) used to guide visiting tourists in the area.

The most surprising thing for the sensational young actor best known for his breakout role as campus heartthrob Troy Bolton in Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise, however, was not finding himself on “top” of an active volcano but being recognized by Bicolana natives in the area.

“It was two super cute little girls that just showed up. I couldn’t believe it. We hadn’t seen a face in like 30 miles and we’re on the ATVs and out of nowhere, they just come running out, jumping and screaming,” he recalled.

The “two super cute girls” did what thousands of young girls failed to do during Zac’s Penshoppe Fan Conference that took place last Saturday before he left the country – see their idol up close and have their photos taken with him.

Because of the video and subsequent fan reaction, Zac Efron is again a trending topic on Twitter.

Inside Tom Cruise's Solo Life in London

With his latest home base an apartment in a luxury hotel just outside London, Tom Cruise is a single man again.

As PEOPLE reports in its new cover story, Cruise has been making several calls a day to his daughter Suri, 6, who lives in New York City with mom Katie Holmes, while he's been working long hours on his sci-fi thriller All You Need Is Kill since August.

"He misses his little girl," says his friend, screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie.

Meanwhile, often late at night once film work has wrapped, Cruise has relaxed over spirited dinners and occasional club nights with old and newer friends.

On Sept. 20, Cruise caught a late night dinner with actress Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett, who produced the MTV Movie Awards the year Cruise appeared as his Tropic Thunder alter ego Les Grossman.

The night before, he stayed out until 3 a.m. at the nightclub Annabel's, where Cruise hung out with friends including McQuarrie and his wife.

At Annabel's, a laid-back Cruise chatted up several fellow club-goers. "Tom loves the people here [in England]," says a source. "They're friendly."

Earlier in the month, Cruise caught his friend Mark Rylance in Shakespeare's Richard III at the Globe Theatre, and at the end of August he caught up with former girlfriend Penélope Cruz, husband Javier Bardem and his Knight and Day costar Cameron Diaz at a dinner in Coworth Park.

In between, there was a quick vacation to Hvar, Croatia, where he hung with Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, a past investor in Cruise's production company, and his wife Tanya.

But there's no new romance in his life yet: Three months after Holmes filed for divorce, Cruise isn't ready to date again, sources say.

"When he's in London he's going to be seeing his friends," says a source. "[But] there is no mystery woman."

Derek Ramsay Finds A New Girl?

MANILA, Philippines – Several months after his split with Angelica Panganiban, Derek Ramsay has purportedly found a new love in a non-showbiz girl.

The Fil-British actor-host has even supposedly introduced his new squeeze to his parents, reported “Ang Latest” on Sept. 29.

However, Derek begged off on making any comments regarding the rumors in a recent interview. PEP nevertheless quoted him to have said, “I am happy.”

The TV5 talent expressed his wish for his next relationship to be with a non-showbiz girl, as well as for such private matters to be kept away from the spotlight. He has apparently learned from his high profile relationship with Angelica, in which they had to endure a string of controversies in the six years they were together.

Meanwhile, Derek has also happily related with PEP that he has resumed communication with the comedienne-actress “through email.”

He adds, “We communicate, but we’re both busy with our schedules.  Tapos na ito, seven months na ito. We’re both happy, she’s happy,” said he.

Angelica is rumored to be in a relationship with John Lloyd Cruz.

Although they now lead separate lives, Derek assured in his interview with “Ang Latest” that, “Ang friendship namin ni Angel started six years ago, and until now magkaibigan kami.”

Their recent brief Twitter correspondence after Angelica has won Best Supporting Actress at the 60th FAMAS Awards also seems to be another proof that they are on better terms now.

“When I found out the news, first thing I did was… tweet her. Like I said, we don’t hold anything against each other. So I congratulated her and she said thank you,” Derek recalled.

Derek is busy these days with his projects with TV5, namely the series “Kidlat” and the reality show, “The Amazing Race Philippines.”
