Sony brings latest ‘intelligent’ Xperia X-Series smartphones to PH market
MANILA, Philippines — Sony Philippines recently introduced the new Xperia flagship mobile devices with the launch of the Xperia X and Xperia XA — two new smartphones under the X Series.
The two Android-powered Sony smartphones deliver next generation features with a fresh new look, improved camera technology, smart battery management, and stylish design.
“Smartphone users are demanding more from their smartphones: some want a better camera, others longer battery life, and the rest just simply want a sleeker design,” said Jhoana Benedicto, marketing officer for Sony Mobile’s the Philippine office. “Sony Mobile took this into consideration and provides a major improvement with the X Series. Every detail of the X series shows great improvement in all the key areas, particularly in camera, battery, and design.”
The X Series offers a range of next-gen technologies: from fast autofocus on a moving object with Xperia X’s Predictive Hybrid Autofocus and a more stable video capture that features SteadyShot video stabilization for recording smooth videos and minimizing “shaky cam” effects, to low-light selfie camera on the XA model for an anytime, anywhere shot.
The Xperia X is equipped with camera features such as an improved 13MP front camera and quick startup from standby mode of only 0.6 seconds at the touch of a button to capture that once in a lifetime photo moment.
Crafted with a seamless metal back and curved glass edges of its 5-inch display, the Xperia X also has fingerprint sensor on the power button which provides instant access to the phone.
The phone’s smart battery management provide up to two days of battery life with its Quick Charge technology delivering up to two times battery lifespan using ground-breaking Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology that maintains battery health while charging.
For the mid-range Xperia XA model, this Sony smartphone features the world’s narrowest 5-inch smartphone in a sophisticated bezel-less design that gives a seamless edge-to-edge display that stretches the full width of the phone to make full use of the entire display.
It comes with a 13MP rear camera, plus hybrid autofocus, and super-fast quick launch, too. In addition, the XA’s 8MP front camera enables users to capture clear photos in low-light environment including an improved wide angle lens.
XA’s battery power lasts up to two days from a single charge. And with the same smart battery management system as the Xperia X, the Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology gives the Xperia XA two times battery lifespan. Pairing this smartphone model with the optional accessory Quick Charger, the user can get 5.5 hours of battery life with just a 10-minute charge.
The dual-SIM Xperia X is tagged at P29,990 and comes in colors: Graphite Black, White, Lime Gold, Rose Gold. While the Xperia XA is P13,990 in colors: Graphite Black, White, Lime Gold, Rose Gold. Both smartphones will also be available on all Sony Centers and Xperia shops nationwide by early July.

Sony unveils new smartphone in bid for top three ranking
BERLIN — Sony Corp. unveiled a new smartphone on Wednesday in its push to become the world’s third-biggest maker of smartphones after Samsung and Apple.
Sony’s Chief Executive Kazuo Hirai told a news conference in Berlin, where Europe’s largest consumer electronics trade show will open its doors this week, the Sony Xperia Z1 will be available in September.
“The Xperia Z1 embodies everything Sony has to offer,” said Hirai, who is under pressure from U.S. hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb to split up the company to revive its electronics business.
The new waterproof smartphone will come with a 5-inch display and have a 20.7 megapixel rear-facing camera.
The company did not give a retail price nor say which carriers would offer the phone.
Hirai in 2012 identified mobile products, gaming and digital imaging as the core of a rebound in consumer electronics after more than a decade of decline for the pioneer of personal music players and compact discs. It had a record loss of $5.74 billion in the 2011/12 fiscal year.
Of those three priorities, mobile has since emerged as the best near-term hope for Sony although it has a long way to go.
According to research firm Gartner Sony didn’t place among the top five smartphones makers in the second quarter of this year. Overall Sony was the ninth-biggest mobile handset maker with a 2.2 percent market share, up from 1.7 percent in the previous year.
Sony’s problems are similar to those of Nokia which is still the world’s second-largest in overall phones, but it struggles to sell the high-margin smartphones.
Two years after hitching its fate to Microsoft’s Windows Phone software, the Finnish phone maker that once dominated the global market collapsed into the arms of the U.S. software giant, its mobile business ravaged by nimbler rivals Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics.
Sony’s goal is to fend off challenges from China’s Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp and Korea’s LG Electronics to secure the No. 3 slot in the global smartphone market, behind Samsung and Apple which between them account for about half of all smartphones sold, according to Gartner data.
Samsung on Wednesday unveiled a smartwatch and the latest version of the Galaxy Note phone-cum-tab, while Apple has sent official invitations to a September 10 event at which it is expected to unveil the latest version of the iPhone, possibly in colors other than its trademark black and white.
Sony has forecast smartphone sales to rise more than 20 percent to 42 million in the year to next March.
Research firm IDC expects industry-wide smartphone shipments to grow 32.7% in 2013, reaching 958.8 million units, up from 722.5 million units last year and marking the first year that smartphone shipments surpass those of feature phones.
Sony also took the wraps off two smartphone lenses which can also be used on most other smartphones via an adapter.
The lenses will have a 18.2 megapixel and 20.2 megapixel sensor respectively.

James Bond trusts Sony Xperia
MANILA, Philippines - “Xperia is trusted by James Bond,” says Yasushi Asaoka, president and managing director of Sony Philippines. The consumer electronics company reveals that the Xperia TX (also coming in a variant known as Xperia T for some specific markets), the latest smartphone in Sony Mobile’s Xperia range, is set to feature in the newest James Bond film, Skyfall, the 23rd adventure of the longest-running film franchise of all time.
Sony Ericsson first partnered with Bond for Die Another Day starring Pierce Brosnan in 2002, using both the T68i and P800 in the film. “Key phone models have since been featured in the most recent Bond films, with the K800i and M600i making their debuts in Casino Royale, and the C902 bringing limited-edition glamour to Quantum of Solace,” said Asaoka. “We are absolutely thrilled that the Sony Xperia continues to be James Bond’s official handset of choice –– Xperia is definitely the perfect gadget for the franchise’s golden anniversary,” Asaoka added.
James Bond enjoyed its first world premiere in London in 1962 with Dr. No. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise, Sony Philippines will run a promotion. Buyers of selected Sony Xperia handsets will get a free, trendy, “made-for-Xperia” phone case for purchases until Nov. 15. Participating handsets for this promotion are: Xperia ion, Xperia S, and Xperia P.
