NBA: Harrison Barnes, Davion Mitchell lift Kings over Magic in OT

Harrison Barnes hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining in overtime and rookie Davion Mitchell finished with 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the Sacramento Kings defeated the host Orlando Magic 114-110 on Saturday night.

Mitchell (10-for-23 shooting) reached double figures for the seventh consecutive game as Sacramento started 2-0 on its current five-game road trip. The Kings also posted consecutive wins for the first time since they defeated Minnesota on Feb. 9 and Washington on Feb. 12.

The Kings outscored the Magic 9-5 in the overtime period. Orlando's final points came on Cole Anthony's long two-pointer with 1:51 remaining, and Donte DiVincenzo and Barnes both made triples inside the final minute of overtime as the Kings ended the game on a 7-0 run. 

DiVincenzo added a free throw with 6.9 seconds left, securing Sacramento's 11th road win this season.

Orlando squandered a 105-97 lead late in regulation. Trey Lyles' putback with 21.5 seconds remaining pulled the Kings within 105-103 and Mitchell's backcourt steal and layup made it 105-all with 12.9 seconds to go.

The Magic had an opportunity to win in regulation, but Chuma Okeke missed a 3-pointer near the left corner as time expired.

Sacramento had seven players finish in double figures. Barnes had 19 points and seven rebounds, DiVincenzo scored 16 points off the bench and centers Alex Len and Damian Jones each contributed 15 points. Lyles scored 11 points to go with 18 rebounds and Justin Holiday added 10 points.

Franz Wagner paced the Magic with 19 points and nine rebounds. Moe Wagner had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in 19 minutes off the bench and Anthony had 14 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

Mo Bamba totaled 18 points and 13 rebounds and Markelle Fultz contributed a season-high 16 points off the bench for Orlando.

Fultz made 7 of 14 shots in 20 minutes before exiting with just over five minutes remaining. The former No. 1 overall draft pick was appearing in his 11th game this season after suffering a torn left ACL in January 2021.

The Kings led 41-28 after the opening quarter, ending the period on a 21-8 run. Sacramento shot 67 percent (14-for-21) from the floor, making six of its eight 3-point attempts, in addition to going 7-for-7 at the foul line.

Mitchell scored 18 first-half points as the Kings built a 66-62 halftime lead.

Sacramento played its fourth straight game without leading scorer De'Aaron Fox (right hand). The Kings were also missing double-digit scorer and rebounder Domantas Sabonis as he recovers from a bruised left knee.

NBA: Playing without LeBron James, Lakers still punish Kings

Anthony Davis scored 25 points, Malik Monk shot 6-of-10 from 3-point range en route to 22 points off the bench, and a Los Angeles Lakers team playing without LeBron James rode a big third quarter to a 117-92 defeat of the host Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.

Trailing 72-68 midway through the third quarter, Davis and Russell Westbrook ignited the first of two 12-0 runs that began in the period.

Davis scored six of the 12 points in the first burst, which lasted a little more than three minutes, while Westbrook added three points and assisted on a 3-pointer by Monk that capped the pivotal run.

Westbrook finished with 23 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Carmelo Anthony then scored five of his 14 points off the bench to spark Los Angeles' second 12-0 run, which lasted into the early fourth quarter and pushed the Lakers' lead to 18 points.

The reserves came up big for Los Angeles and helped extend the lead to as many as 27 points in the final period. Dwight Howard added 12 to the Lakers' 58 total bench points, as well as a game-high 13 rebounds.

Bench contributions were timely with James scratched from the lineup late due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Sacramento, meanwhile, got just 20 points from its reserves - though the bench accounted for four of the team's six made 3-pointers. Davion Mitchell knocked down a pair en route to eight points, and he was the only Kings player to make more than one on a 6-of-29 collective shooting night from long range.

With outside shots not falling, Richaun Holmes and Chimezie Metu carried much of Sacramento's scoring load on the interior. Holmes shot 12-of-13 for a game-high 27 points, while Metu finished 7-of-10 for 14 points with 11 rebounds.

De'Aaron Fox was Sacramento's only other scorer in double-figures with 17 points.

NBA: Jazz pummel Kings, set franchise scoring mark

Bojan Bogdanovic scored 24 points and Jordan Clarkson added 23 to lead the Utah Jazz to a 154-105 victory over the host Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.

Georges Niang chipped in 19 points, while Rudy Gobert added 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Jazz. Eight players scored in double figures to help Utah (45-17) snap a two-game losing streak and remain in first place in the Western Conference.

The Jazz set a franchise record for most points in a game. Utah averaged 41.3 points per quarter over the final three quarters.

Richaun Holmes and Buddy Hield scored 18 points apiece to lead the Kings. Justin James added 16 points. Tyrese Haliburton chipped in 13 points and eight assists. Sacramento (25-37) could not keep pace after allowing the Jazz to shoot 64 percent from the field and make 24 of 41 (58.5 percent) of their 3-pointers.

Bogdanovic scored back-to-back layups to punctuate an 8-0 run and give Utah a 26-18 lead late in the first quarter. He had an effective opening quarter, scoring 12 points to go with a block and a steal.

Sacramento cut the deficit to a point at 26-25 on back-to-back baskets from Hield and Terence Davis. Then the Jazz broke the game open to start the second quarter.

Utah scored 13 unanswered points and ripped off a 31-6 run overall to build a double-digit lead. Niang and Royce O'Neale finished off the run by combining for baskets on three straight possessions that extended the Jazz lead to 61-33 late in the second quarter.

Utah eventually built up a 76-44 halftime lead. The Jazz scored 46 points in the second quarter while holding the Kings to 17. The Jazz shot 61.9 percent from the field in the first half - which included 10 of 19 on 3-pointers.

The Jazz played without their usual starting backcourt of Mike Conley (hamstring) and Donovan Mitchell (ankle).

Harrison Barnes (groin) sat out for Sacramento. De'Aaron Fox also missed his third straight game for the Kings due to NBA health and safety protocols.
