Rapper Psy wants fans to dress in white for April 13 concert

SEOUL – South Korean rapper Psy wants his fans to turn up in white at his April concert where he will launch a new song that he hopes will cement the success of his “Gangnam Style” Youtube hit.

“See this pic and let’s be white on 0413″, Psy tweeted on his @psy_oppa Twitter feed on Wednesday, referring to the April 13 concert to be held in the South Korean capital of Seoul.

The chubby rapper, who shot to fame with over a billion Youtube hits in 2012, subsequently poses in a variety of white clothing, ranging from a spacesuit to tennis whites and even a bridal gown and skimpy figure-skating dress.

His stylist says the 35-year old is more likely to reprise a concert style based on the suit used in “Gangnam Style” than anything more racy.

Psy has not yet revealed what song he will release.

‘The Gangnam Show: Psy Live in Manila!’ moved to February 2013

Korean rapper Psy’s Manila concert has been postponed yet again. The concert dubbed ‘The Gangnam Show: Psy Live in Manila!’ slated for Thursday, December 20, has been moved to February 2013 due to “logistical issues”.

Concert promoters Joed Serrano of That’s NTertainment Productions and Renen de Guia of Ovation Productions issued the following statement late on Tuesday:

“The organizers of the Gangnam Style event on December 20, 2012 at MOA Arena have collectively agreed to postpone the event to February 2013 due to logistical issues. PSY remains extremely excited about visiting the Philippines and looks forward to performing for his fans in early 2013.”

The show was supposed to feature guest performances by several local artists, namely Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Chokoleit, Pokwang, Pooh, K Brosas, Jose Manalo & Wally Bayola, Ate Gay, and Ai Ai De las Alas.

The chubby South Korean rapper behind the global hit “Gangnam Style” was originally rumored to be coming to perform in the Philippines on November 29.

Then it was reported that he was definitely staging a concert at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds on December 21.

When promoters That’s Ntertainment made the formal announcement regarding the concert, the date was subsequently pushed a day earlier to December 20.

And then the venue was moved indoors to the MOA Arena, bumping off a PBA semifinal game between Talk N Text and Alaska.

Psy to perform on Dec. 21 at MOA Open Grounds

Psy — the South Korean rapper behind the global hit “Gangnam Style” — will perform on December 21 at the SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds, a source close to the promoter told InterAksyon.

The source, who requested anonymity, said the promoter of Psy’s Manila concert is That’s Ntertainment Productions, which recently brought The Jonas Brothers and Snow Patrol to the country and produced Aiza Seguerra’s major concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The company is headed by former “That’s Entertainment” mainstay Joed Serrano, hence the name. Organizers are expected to make an official announcement regarding the concert later on Monday.

Earlier rumors had said the chubby singer would stage a concert in Manila on November 29, but the show reportedly fell through due to scheduling conflicts.

“Gangnam Style” became the most watched video on YouTube on November 24, with over 877 million views as of Monday. Its infectious electronic beat and wacky horse-riding dance moves have made Psy the biggest breakthrough musical artist of 2012.

‘Gangnam Style’ makes history as most viewed, most liked video on YouTube

Psy may not have reached the top of the American pop charts, but the 34-year old South Korean rapper may have found another reason to take his shirt off.

With over 415 million views across all categories as of Wednesday morning, his music video for his monster hit “Gangnam Style” has officially made YouTube history as it is now the most watched video on the most popular video sharing website in the internet.

According to the Guinness Book of World Recods, the infectious dance tune’s closest competitor, Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” only managed 54 million views during the same period.

Uploaded only last July 16, “Gangnam Style” immediately became a viral hit and has also been liked in excess of 3,771, 462 times, which also makes it the most liked video in YouTube history.

Its distant competitors for most liked YouTube video are LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” with 1,574,963 likes and Justin’s Bieber’s “Baby” with 1,327,147 likes.

Born Park Jae-Sang, Psy served in the military as a technician in a venture firm prior to pursuing a career in music. Aside from singing and rapping, Psy also writes his own songs. “Gangnam Style” is his most successful single to date and also marks the first time a South Korean artist has topped the iTunes charts.

But conquering America by making the number one spot in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the standard by which the most popular song in the US is measured, remains the rapper’s foremost priority.

It continues to be an elusive goal for Psy as Maroon 5’s “One More Night” continues to rule the prestigious chart for a third week for the period ending October 13.

The K-Pop superstar had pledged to perform his signature horse dance “half-naked” in his home city Seoul if “Gangnam Style” hit number one in the Billboard Hot 100.

Whether or not that’s actually going to happen, one thing is clear, “Gangnam Style” is a big boost to the popularity of K-Pop that was given its due recognition in the US when Billboard created its Korea K-Pop Hot 100 chart last year, the second Asian Billboard chart after the Japan Hot 100 was launched in 2008.

“Gangnam Style” spent five weeks at number one in the Billboard Korea K-Pop Chart. The song is part of “Psy’s Best 6th Part 1,” his latest studio album and is also included the compilation CD, “Hottest Hits Ever” along with “Payphone” by Maroon 5, “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen and “Boyfriend” by Justin Bieber, among others.

‘Gangnam Style’ stuck in second on US pop chart

LOS ANGELES – South Korean rapper Psy can keep his shirt on after his goofy “Gangnam Style” failed for a second week running to conquer the summit of Billboard’s Hot 100 hit parade, albeit by a slight margin.

The K-Pop superstar had pledged – some might say threatened – to perform his signature horse dance “half-naked” in his home city Seoul if his catchy and kitschy ditty hit number one in the preeminent US popular music chart.



But alas, he remained stuck in second as Maroon 5 – bolstered by radio play – hung on to the top spot with “One More Night,” Billboard reported on its website, adding however that the race was “extremely close.”

“Clearly, Psy remains in contention for the Hot 100′s coveted No. 1 rank next week,” the music industry reference said. “Until then, however, because he’s just less than tops on the chart, he’ll have to keep his shirt on.”

The Hot 100 reflects CD sales, digital downloads and radio play – and while the gap in overall chart points between “One More Night” and “Gangnam Style” was about 3,000 last week, it narrowed to fewer than 500 this week.

Psy, a 34-year-old whose real name is Park Jae-Sang, shot to international fame when “Gangnam Style” went viral in July on YouTube, where it has notched up more than 355 million views.

Recent appearances at the MTV awards in Los Angeles and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” lifted his US profile, adding to an American cult following for South Korean pop music and soap operas.
