Though no official words have been announced, it seems that 20th Century Fox will eventually lose its rights to the "Daredevil" reboot project. The license may be reverted to Marvel Studios/Walt Disney Pictures since it's about to expire this week and Fox's extension request has been rejected, Variety reports.
The current terms of the agreement state that Fox must kick off the production of the by October 10. The studio has already picked "" helmer Joe Carnahan to shepherd the remake project, but Carnahan himself has hinted that the gig won't likely be developed at Fox.
Taking to his Twitter on Monday, August 13, Carnahan shared, "Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids." He followed it up with, "We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone's side."
On Tuesday, the filmmaker continued his talks about the "DD" reboot by posting, "Guys. To clarify. DD pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it. The clock ticked down at Fox, that's why it went t*ts up."
He also shared two sizzle reels of his take on "DD" that he presented to Fox. One of them, which was dubbed the "NC-17" version, was packed with gruesome violence. Meanwhile, the other one was "more PG-13 version. More comic panels. Less violent."
Back in July, during the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con, it was rumored that Fox was in danger to lose its property for the "Daredevil" reboot if the long-gestating project was still not underway by fall. The problem rooted since David Slade decided to exit the gig earlier this year.
