John Lloyd Cruz on relationship with Angelica: ‘I can truly say I’ve never been happier’
She wrote him a song. He gave her a Mercedes Benz SLK.
John Lloyd Cruz and Angelica Panganiban are no longer denying that they are a couple. At a press conference last week for “A Beautiful Affair”, John Lloyd’s new teleserye with perennial screen partner Bea Alonzo, he was bombarded with questions about the perfect Sundays he’s been spending with Angelica lately, and an extravagant gift he delivered to her garage recently.
“Wala naman kaming dine-deny. Basta gano’n lang. We don’t talk openly about it lang,” he said.
He blushed when reminded of “Barcelona”, the song Angelica wrote for him. What about that ring that she posted on Twitter? It’s not what you might think it is. “Part ng costume niya ‘yun sa isang movie na ginagawa niya,” he said.
But he came clean when pressed about that posh sedan, reportedly worth over P5 million, which trumps the Mini Cooper from Angelica’s previous boyfriend, Derek Ramsay.
“Hindi naman kailangang gawing issue. Ang laki-laki naman ng pera ko. Pero ‘pag mahal mo ang isang tao, kakayanin mo namang ibigay ang lahat-lahat sa kanya,” he said frankly.
There’s no more denying it – John Lloyd is deeply in love.
“Mahirap sukatin. But I can truly say I’ve never been happier. Masayang-masaya talaga. Maganda ngayon ang trabaho ko, ang career. Kaya siguro nasasabi ko na I am inspired. Dahil ito ang nangyayari now,” he said.
“Iba nga ‘yung nararamdaman namin. Hindi namin nilalagyan ng label. Kasi nakakalito lang ‘yun. At hindi naming ipinipilit. What is here and now. In the moment. In the present. Anything can happen,” he added.
This romance is not more than four months old. He’s not naive; he knows this first flush will fade.
“Ngayon, nasa cloud 9 ka, kinikilig ka pa. When you fall in love with that person, merong time na panay kilig talaga. But that can last for a certain time lang. Hindi naman ‘yun magla-last forever. ‘Yung commitment mo with the person ang kailangang mag-last. Kung paano n’yong aalagaan that commitment with each other,” he explained.
Surely, he’s excited about this coming Christmas, which will be their first together. Any plans?
“Hindi ko pa alam kung ano ang magiging plano. Kasi dadating ang family ni Angel and the reason excited siya doon na sila magi-stay sa bagong bahay niya. So, Pasko, sa side niya, sa side ko. And as of now, talagang ini-enjoy lang namin ‘yung moment. Walang pressure.”
He is also very pleased that Derek has only good words to say about him.
“Salamat sa magagandang sinasabi. Bakit, may kailangan bang ipagtanggol? Totoo naman ‘yung mga sinasabi niya. Pero wala namang kailangang ipagtanggol. Sinasabi lang niya ang totoo. Ang mga tao lang naman ang nagbibigay ng sari-sari nilang mga impressions. Kasi nga, dapat sa mga ganitong sitwasyon, ‘yung mga taong involved na lang ang dapat ang nakakaalam ng kung ano at bakit sa mga nangyayari. May karapatan namang magsalita ang bawat isa sa amin.”
What about his ex, Shaina Magdayao? What if ABS-CBN decided to pair them again in the near future?
“Wala naman siya sa plano. Kung magsasama uli, ang network na ang magde-decide noon. Trabaho naman ‘yun. At saka bakit ako ang tatanungin about it?”
As for being paired with Angelica, that has already happened with “24/7 In Love”, the Star Cinema movie that will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management company which handles both their careers. They headline one of the six episodes in the omnibus film, and that episode was shot in Vietnam last summer. And by now, it is well known that Angelica broke up with Derek after coming home from that shoot.
And if it’s up to John Lloyd, this screen pairing should never happen again. Why? “Yung nagawa naming project na ’24/7′, ‘yun na ang last. I dunno. Basta ‘yun lang ang take ko. Parang mas gusto ko na hindi kami magkatrabaho pa. For now. In the future, I don’t know,” he said.
It’s a safe bet that Star Cinema won’t grant this particular wish. But for now, let us allow John Lloyd to wallow in romantic bliss.
You know what was the best thing he said in that home video shot by Direk Dante Nico Garcia of an intimate dinner hosted by Angelica for John Lloyd and two other companions?
“Nag-e-exist pala ang ganitong klase ng happiness.”

John Lloyd Was An ‘Other Man’ In A Past Relationship

MANILA, Philippines – Considering the rumors that he was the reason Angelica Panganican and Derek Ramsay broke up, John Lloyd Cruz makes a startling revelation that he had once been the “other man.”
“Ako, at one point, parang pumayag ako na yes, kahit number two lang ako okay na ako,” came his confession at the presscon for “The Mistress,” a movie that reunites him with his favorite screen partner, Bea Alonzo.
“I was so much younger. I was in my late twenties noong mangyari ‘yon," he said. “The feeling was too strong at hindi ko ma-contain.”
Back then, he was left with no choice but to be at the woman’s mercy.
“Wala, siya ‘yung nag-take over, wala, pumayag na ako. Nabigkas ko ‘yung, ‘Okay lang, kung kailan lang may time. Okay na ako doon,’” Lloydie shared without revealing the woman's identity.
The subject was brought up in relation to his role in the film; that of a man who got involved with a woman who’s already taken. Her love interest in the film, played by Bea Alonzo, is the mistress of Ronaldo Valdez’s character.
The actor related that he was in a very difficult situation then.
“Mahirap siya kasi nawawala ‘yung…hindi naman sa imoral siya pero parang dine-dare ka niya to be someone you’re not kasi ‘yun nga parang masyadong nailabas mo ‘yung nararamdaman mo for that person.”
But the actor realized, albeit belatedly, that “I was only infatuated.”
Another realization came when Lloydie felt that “she deserves (someone) better.”
“She did not deserve to be in that kind of separation. In a way naging instrumental ako na kaya bakit siya nalagay sa ganoong sitwasyon is because hindi ko ginawa kung ano ‘yung tama,” he explained.
Click tandem
John Lloyd and Bea mark their 10th anniversary as a love team.
More often than not ay nabubuwag ‘yung tandem.”
After several hit movies, Bea’s leading man feels grateful that their pairing is still widely followed.
“Natutuwa kami na talaga. Ako personally natutuwa na hanggang ngayon ay kaya pa naming gumawa, very much able to do a movie, sell a movie. Very soon we’ll be back with a teleserye. Kung meron mang nabago kahit na maliit, kahit na konti sa aming nakaraan ni Bea baka hindi kami nakaharap dito,” he said.

Shaina Opens Up On Second Wind With John Lloyd

A brief cool-off apparently did John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao good.
The controversial showbiz couple has already matured in their relationship, which has gone through a hurricane of intrigues since they got together in 2010 until they separated for some time late last year.
In a recent press conference, Shaina related, “Maraming changes, changes for the better. Mas na-appreciate namin ang isa’t-isa ngayon. At mas alam na niya ang needs ko, mas alam ko ang needs niya as a person. Siguro, mas tumaas ang respeto namin sa isa’t-isa.
“Kasi, ‘di ba, when you part ways, dapat hanggang dun na lang ‘yun? Pero ‘pag nagkabalikan kayo, dun pa tumaas ang respeto namin. Na-realize namin ang worth ng isa’t-isa.”
Although their schedules are both packed, Shaina said that she and John Lloyd determinedly make time for each other.
“We try to have breakfast or dinner together ‘pag may konting oras na rest. Sobrang daming effort but it’s part of it. At least nakakatuwa na pareho kaming may trabaho,” said the young actress.
Overcoming setbacks in their relationship hasn’t been easy, according to Shaina, especially since they are public figures routinely scrutinized under a microscope. Nevertheless, Shaina maintained she’s not the type who will back down from challenges.
“…The more you put me down, the more I’ll prove you wrong, mas lalaban at lalaban ako, hindi ako magpapatalo. At the same time, ‘pag merong masaklap na nangyari sa buhay ko, I always believe na may kapalit ‘yun… Lahat ng mga nabato sa akin ni Lord pinapalitan niya ng mas maganda. So grabe ‘yung faith ko sa Diyos na hindi niya ako pababayaan,” said Shaina, who’s one of the lead stars of the upcoming drama series, “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo.”
