NY hotel probes leaked video of Beyonce sister attacking Jay Z

A New York boutique hotel on Monday said it was investigating how a recording of a security video that purportedly shows rapper Jay Z being attacked by his sister-in-law, R&B singer Solange Knowles, was leaked to a website.

The video posted by celebrity website TMZ.com appears to show the 27-year-old Knowles, younger sister of Beyonce, charging and striking Jay Z several times in an elevator at the Standard Hotel in New York’s Meatpacking District before being restrained.

Beyonce looks on in the three-and-a-half-minute video without audio, which quickly became an internet sensation, sparking several parody videos and photos.

The three are seen dressed in clothing that they had worn to the Met Gala benefit on the night of May 5. But representatives for all three did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation of the incident.

The hotel, the venue for a post-gala party, promised to prosecute whoever was behind the recording, calling it a breach of security and guest confidentiality.

“We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity,” the hotel said in a statement without naming Jay Z, Beyonce or Solange Knowles.

The Standard Hotel, which has locations in Los Angeles and Miami Beach, Florida, is controlled by hotelier Andre Balazs’ Standard International management company.

Cross-dressing Chinese grandfather finds fame

BEIJING--A 72-year-old Chinese man who became an Internet sensation after his granddaughter used him as a cross-dressing model to promote her clothing store was delighted at his new-found fame, she said.

Lu Qing, who lives in southern China's Guangdong province, posted pictures of her grandfather dressed in an array of pink skirts, red tights and fur-lined women's jackets to promote her online fashion outlet Yuekou.

The images of Liu Xianping have since gone viral and seen him branded the "world's coolest" grandfather by Internet users for his slender legs and modelling poise. They have also boosted his granddaughter's bottom line.

"Since the pictures came out, we've had a huge number of website visitors, and are selling five times as many clothes as before," Lu told AFP. "Previously, we sometimes sold less than 10 items a day, and were feeling depressed about the business."

Lu said her grandfather was "surprised" by the reaction to the photos and at least three other stores had asked him to pose for them, but he was unlikely to accept.

"He doesn't see modelling as a way of making money, its just about having fun with his relatives," she said, adding she hopes to use his services again.

Liu "had a young heart", she said, and enjoys visits to parks and zoos, as well as playing games on his mobile phone. "He thinks bringing people's attention to the elderly is great, so he's been very happy recently."

The Offbeat China website, which tracks Internet developments in the country, said Liu's modelling illustrates the transformation it has undergone.

"It is stories like this when one can get a sense of what a diversified society China has changed into in the past 40 years, especially for someone like Liu who has lived through one of the most rigid times in China's history," said a post on the site.

Liu, who has worked as a teacher and a farmer, did not need prompting to take up modelling, Lu said.

"My grandfather saw some new stock one day and thought some of the colours were pretty... he wasn't embarrassed to model because we're all very close to him," she said, adding that his favourite item was a red women's coat.

'Panny Girl' and Internet sensation Petra Mahalimuyak signs with Viva

Boss Vic del Rosario knew next to nothing about her. Only that she's popular on the Internet. The CEO of Viva Entertainment hadn't even seen any of her hit videos on Youtube.

But when he laid eyes on her for the first time Thursday he knew instantly that he was in the presence of a star, albeit one who speaks "panny".

Petra Mahalimuyak is a feisty fashion-forward Filipina who speaks in fluent but heavily accented English.

Boss Vic, who charts the careers of Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Cristine Reyes, and Willie Revillame, is confident that Petra Mahalimuyak can cross over to Philippine showbiz in a big way now that she has signed a management contract with Viva Artist Agency.

He wants Petra to be on TV, in movies, on the live stage, in CDs. "She is a new kind of comedienne—maganda, magaling, matalino!” he quipped after being bowled over by Petra during their first meeting in his office.

She looked every inch a leading lady in a chic royal blue mini-dress that showed off her fetching figure. It was only when she slipped into Petra mode to perform a short medley of her biggest viral hits that the "panny" girl emerged.

Yes, for the uninitiated, Petra Mahalimuyak is just a character. It was created last year by then-18-year-old Filipino-American model Ashley Rivera, who was born in Los Angeles, grew up in the Philippines and moved to Las Vegas in 2010.

"Petra is my alter ego," Ashley said. "She's the exaggerated version of me. She'll do whatever she wants. And she sincerely doesn't give a pack."

Petra Mahalimuyak, whose surname means "fragrant" in Filipino, was born out of boredom while Ashley was adjusting to her life in Las Vegas. She made her Youtube debut almost a full year ago, on April 12, with the video, "Make Up Tutorial by Petra M."

To date, her Youtube channel has over 50,000 subscribers, and it has also played host to Ashley's other characters, including the British fashionista Tiffany Madison and Petra's best friend, Jora Echusera.

Her 40-plus self-produced videos of tutorials, parodies, and skits—shot mostly in her bathroom using her iPhone—have received over 9 million total views. Her biggest hit, "How to get abs in 1 min," has been viewed 1,098,561 times as of presstime.

"I absolutely love entertaining people," said Ashley. "It's a passion of mine. I love to dance, act, sing, cook and just have fun. I don't take things too seriously. I just go with the flow."

Did she say cook? Yes, Ashley is a graduate of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies and could certainly carry her own cooking show.

With Boss Vic paving the way, she can expect mainstream Filipino audiences to soon bear witness to her considerable comedic skills.

On Saturday afternoon, Petra Mahalimuyak had a meet-and-greet session with her Facebook fans at Fez in Serendra in Taguig City.
