Revlon drops China business, cuts 1,100 jobs
NEW YORK - US cosmetics company Revlon said Tuesday it was shutting down its operations in China to cut costs, eliminating about 1,100 positions.
Revlon said its China business represented about two percent of total sales, which topped $1.4 billion worldwide in 2012, and that the move would lead to savings of about $11 million a year.
It said most of the 1,100 jobs cut will be in China, including approximately 940 beauty advisers that were hired indirectly through a third-party agency.
The company will incur about $22 million in pre-tax charges due to the restructuring, of which $20.9 million was being recorded as a charge in December 2013.
Revlon markets beauty products under the Revlon, Gatineau, Mitchum, and Ultima II brands.
Shares were up 0.2 percent to $24.60 in midday trade Tuesday.

Oh my! Georgina Wilson has a new scent!
MANILA, Philippines - Everyone has a thing for Georgina Wilson. She’s got the face and the legs, and the credentials. She’s beautiful and smart. If you must know, she did graduate with honors at the University of Australia. She’s got beauty and brains. Oh, my George! What an inspiration!
And for that reason, top retail brand Bench offered this epitome of beauty and intelligence her well-deserved scent: Oh my George!
If beauty and brains were to smell like something it would be a concoction of berries, mandarin, rose, sandalwood, and creamy musk. It’s a fresh, fruity-floral fragrance that revives the mind and the senses. Another scent Bench and Georgina have come up with is the XOXO George Deo Cologne. It also has a floral-fruity concoction that accentuates beauty and simplicity. It’s a mix of cleanliness, freshness, and delicate accords of freesia, rose, apricot, berries, and creamy vanilla.
Georgina’s charisma, charm, and grace symbolize youth, freshness, and spontaneity. It also represents a sort of vintage chic. It shows that George is the kind of girl who’s not afraid to have fun. A whiff of the scent will have you saying “OMG!” as it’s an aroma full of smiles and surprises, and with a promise of happiness.
The launch will be held on Feb. 23 at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium. The fragrance definitely smells as good as George looks. The charming glass bottle for Oh My George! retails at P368 and the XOXO George Deo Cologne at P128 available in all stores nationwide.

Brad Pitt becomes first male face of Chanel No.5
PARIS - Brad Pitt is set to become the first male face of Chanel No.5, a role previously filled by such fellow Hollywood luminaries as Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Kidman.
A new 30-second ad campaign for the iconic women's perfume is to be unveiled online via the French fashion house's YouTube page at 8:00 am (0600 GMT) Friday and then on television later in the day.
The decision to choose Pitt to head the campaign was announced back in May.
After campaigns depicting actress Estella Warren as red riding-hood, Kidman running through the streets of New York and actress Audrey Tautou aboard a luxurious night train, the sparse black and white in which Pitt appears marks a stark change.
In the ad, made by British director Joe Wright, Pitt recites a poem, specially written for the campaign, to a mystery woman.
Chanel sees the ad campaign as a new direction, saying that the perfume "has to go where we are not expected".
Press reports have said that Pitt is being paid seven million dollars (5.5 million euros) for his efforts.
No. 5 was created in 1921 by French perfumer Ernest Beaux, under the direction of Coco Chanel, who wanted a fragrance to complement her clothes.

Aromatherapy in your laundry

MANILA, Philippines - In a survey conducted among young women, 20 to 30 years old, with kids 12 years old and below, it was learned that what they found most lacking in their life was time for themselves. “They’ve dedicated all their time to their children,” Mara Banson, Unilever assistant brand manager, observed, “but there are times when they wish for a moment of rejuvenation, a moment to be energized.”
You’d think a tedious chore such as doing the laundry would be the last place where you’d feel rejuvenated and energized. But with the new Surf Aromatherapy Fabric Conditioner, this is the promise. “The new line of Surf fabric conditioner will surely wash away every homemaker’s dread of doing the laundry,” Unilever brand manager, Stephanie Balois, noted.
At the launch of Surf Aromatherapy Fabric Conditioner, which comes in three variants, Dr. Mike Turvill of Nurture Spa in Tagaytay explained how aromatherapy works with the use of essential oils, which are derived from natural plant materials. He noted the psychological benefits of aromatherapy and how it enhances physical well-being. Essential oils have also been proven to have therapeutic benefits.
The 100-percent essential oils in micro fragrance capsules found in Surf Aromatherapy Fabric Conditioner, which are slowly released during washing, give you the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy, Banson explained. What’s more, with its unique technology, the fragrance capsules that are deposited on the fibers of your clothes are released when you rub your clothes, so you get long-lasting fragrance throughout the day. Banson recalled that she kept some clothes in the closet for three months and they still retained the long-lasting fragrance.
The Energizing variant comes in a red bottle. It contains tuberose oil, which increases blood circulation, which in turn increases energy. Its high floral fragrance is unique and intense, keeping clothes smelling fresh all day.
Pachouli is blended with tuberose oil to produce the Relaxing variant, which comes in a purple bottle. While Tuberose Oil is known for easing the mind and providing relief from stress and tension, pachouli’s heavy, penetrating perfume uplifts the mood. The combination of the two essential oils produces a calming scent.
The third variant, Purifying, comes in a turquoise bottle. It has sweet orange oils, which are known for their antiseptic and antimicrobial effects. It is one of the most popular essential oils used in aromatherapy. With its cheerful citrus scent, “you can sense your problems go away,” Balois said.
The premium line of Surf Aromatherapy Fabric Conditioner, which comes in 800 ml bottles and pouches as well as 360 ml pouches and 25 ml sachets, was launched together with a mom-oriented advocacy titled “Me O’clock ni Mommy”. The campaign aims to encourage moms to take some time off for themselves. “Moms need to recharge their inner being, away from the ‘drainers’ in their lives,” family counselor Maribel Dionisio said. She emphasized the importance of “self-care” and found the “Me o’clock ni Mommy” campaign to be a good idea.
Moms can enjoy relaxing massages, free manicures and pedicures at the Surf Aromatherapy Fabric Conditioner Spa Time Bus which will be going around the metro. At home, moms can log on to Surf Philippines’ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SurfPhilippines, which will serve as their platform to connect with other moms, to share their experiences, photos and messages.
Moms can also get daily tips and suggestions on how they can spend quality time with their family as well as learn new activities that will help them relax and recharge. By joining the “Me O’clock” photo contest online, they’ll get a chance to be one of the monthly winners of a vacation getaway for two to Boracay, Palawan or Cebu. It’s just the kind of break most moms need. “A happy, revitalized mom can definitely have more energy to provide better care for their family,” Balois noted.
