Epson dominates printer market
MANILA, PHILIPPINES | Taking its cue on what consumers are looking for in a printer, Epson pioneered the world’s first genuine Ink Tank System printers, thus gaining a larger market in the printing category.
The Epson L-Series, which came to the market in 2013, combines the best of both worlds: an inkjet printer that significantly lowered total ownership costs while producing Epson-quality prints.
This innovation “stemmed from the customers’ drive for high volume printing and affordable supplies cost without sacrificing quality and reliability,” practically revolutionized the landscape of printing.
“Epson has changed the market with the introduction of the Genuine Ink Tank and we have become the brand of choice here in the country and the whole of Southeast Asia as well. Since the launch of the first Epson L-Series printers, we have sold over 15 million units, and we are glad to say that 1 out of 2 printers sold last year was an Epson inkjet printer”, said Russer Cabrera, product manager for Business Inkjet Printers, Epson Philippines.
With the Japanese company’s Vision Statement dubbed “Epson 2025”, first unveiled last 2016, the company has since strengthened its focus on its four key areas of innovation, Visual innovation (projectors), Wearables innovation (smart glass), Robotics innovation, and Inkjet innovation.
According to Epson, for Inkjet innovations, Epson gained a 51% market share, while in the Professional Printers category, where Epson also continues to dominate, the company reported a 41% market share. Moreover, Epson has also been the No. 1 POS Receipt Printer for 7 years running.
The intelligent range of Epson POS printers connect seamlessly with tablet POS solutions, operating connectivity via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet — which creates new opportunities of growth and mobility for retail businesses.
“Epson delivers unmatched ease-of-use, exceptional connectivity and legendary quality for customers, with all the technical resources they need,” said Thea Austria, product manager for Professional Printers Group, Epson Philippines.
Epson’s small printer category also includes label printers, which have been developed for industrial and commercial use, addressing the new wave of printing on-demand in color.
For his part, Toshimitsu Tanaka, managing director and president, Epson Philippines and country manager, Epson Singapore Pte. Ltd, said: “2017 is truly vital for the company as we continue to focus on making lives simpler and tasks easier with our innovations. These are what make Epson a trusted brand in many parts of the world.”

Epson releases direct-to-garment printer
MANILA, Philippines — Japanese company Epson has released a direct-to-garment printer in hopes of mining the growing textile industry.
In a press release, Epson said that the SC-F2000 the large format printer was wholly designed and developed using their proprietary printing technology.
The company is hoping that the new product will be used by small to medium businesses in the textile business.
“As the Asia Pacific region represents the largest and fastest growing market for textile printing, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4 percent, there is no doubt that small to medium businesses can benefit from the Epson SureColor SC-F2000’s revenue-generating features,” Epson said “Combined with high performance, low maintenance, and low running costs, the F2000 is an ideal investment for SMEs.”
Epson said that online t-shirt shops, production t-shirt printers, and even corporate users will benefit from the SC-F2000 due to “its crack-resistant ink that is soft against the skin.” Users can also configure the system to suit their needs by choosing from two sets of CMYK ink for white garments or up to four white inks for color garments.
“This printer is unique to this industry, in the sense that this is the first system where the entire printer has been designed and manufactured by a single brand. The hardware and ink are designed to work together,” Jino Carlo Alvarez, head of Epson Philippines’ Commercial & Industrial Department, said in a press statement.

Epson Receipt Printer, Projector Win Japanese 2012 Good Design Awards
Epson has announced that two of its products had been recognized in the Japanese 2012 Good Design Awards. The Epson TM-T88V-i receipt printer and EB-485Wi projector were commended for their contributions to lifestyle enriching design.
Epson TM-88V-i
This compact receipt printer contains built-in POS terminal functions, and can be easily incorporated into small POS systems. This product, which was created with an eye to retailers using a cloud-based system, allows web printing and direct control of touch panels, barcode scanners, etc.
Judges’ comments: Displays and barcode scanners are important elements of POS systems in addition to the terminals and the printers. It’s essential for such products to be easy to use from the standpoint of both the retailer and the systems integrator, and must fit into retail environments of all types. We highly evaluate the way in which this product fulfills such requirements with a utilitarian, universal shape that efficiently combines two blocks into a single unit. Despite the difficulty in dealing with the two-block resin components, the product achieves a high level of design that includes attention to detail and a feeling of high precision.
Epson EB-485Wi
This wall-mounted short-throw projector is designed for educational institutions, and contains annotation tools that enable it to be used as an electronic blackboard. There are few shadows, even when people stand close to the screen, and there is reduced risk of users accidentally looking into the light source.
Judges’ comments: This is a wall-mounted short-throw projector with an unobstructed user interface and an easy-to-use feel. The large 60-inch projected image suggests that this product could be used in a variety of ways including cookery classes and workshops. By adding a waterproof function, we think it could even be used outdoors for commercial purposes or digital signage. We highly evaluate how this product contains a wide variety of functions in a friendly, self-contained design.
Based on its state-of-the-art technologies, Epson’s aim is to design products that will improve both the lifestyles and work processes of its customers. Going forward, Epson will continue to refine its technologies and designs as it seeks to create and design products that exceed the expectations of its customers. (Carl Rogel Inocentes)
