Derek Ramsay rules out reconciliation with Cristine Reyes, but wants to keep their friendship

Derek Ramsay has officially admitted that his month-long relationship with Cristine Reyes is indeed over as reported in several print and online media last week. However, the actor remains hopeful that they can still maintain their friendship.

“Right now, I’m giving more importance to the friendship side of our relationship. That’s what I’m trying to do,” Derek told InterAksyon and other media during the pocket press conference for his new weekly drama series on TV5, “For Love or Money”, set to air this October 17 at 8PM.

Derek further revealed that he has spoken with Cristine’s mother and sisters, including actress Ara Mina, whom he said he had a conversation with during the recent trade launch of TV5’s “Everyday All The Way” line-up of new shows at the NBC Tent. Ara is in the cast of Ogie Alcasid’s new teleserye “The Gift”.

“I spoke with everybody that I know who loves her to make sure she’s safe. Her family, her friends, lahat ng mga importanteng tao sa buhay niya, kinausap ko na. So far, they haven’t been disrespectful to me,” he added.

As for Cristine herself, Derek said they remain in touch. As a matter of fact, they are still set to shoot more scenes together for their upcoming film project, “Trophy Wife”. They will also soon travel together to Hawaii for an upcoming show.

Asked if their future liaisons will lead to a possible reconciliation, Derek sounded firm in ruling it out. “We both know that that’s not going to happen,” he declared.

Whether the extremely remote possibility of rekindling their flame has something to do with the real reason for their breakup, Derek wouldn’t say.

“I’m going to be private on what our reasons are. There are so many speculations but it’s not what it is,” he told News5 during the said trade launch.

As to how the breakup is going to affect the subsequent promotion of “Trophy Wife” when the time comes and he and Cristine can actively promote the film together, Derek does not see a problem there.

“I don’t think it will have any effect. People who know me know that I don’t come up with gimmicks just to promote a movie. I just let the movie speak for itself,” he replied.

“Besides, how can I do that to somebody who has been my friend for so long? If she has problems with us promoting the film together, I’ll respect and accept her decision. But I don’t think she will because she’s a professional”.

With regards to a repeat of the publicized incidents early this year when his name was not at all mentioned by his co-stars in “A Secret Affair” during the promotion of that film on ABS-CBN shows, Derek would like to think that it’s no longer an issue given how the Kapamilya network reported the story when he and Cristine first confirmed their relationship.

“I have so much respect for ABS-CBN for doing that. It was nice that my past network showed and mentioned me during that time. From the reports that they gave, they look like they’re happy for me. They even made an effort to go to us and interview us,” he recalled.

But now that he and Cristine are no longer a couple, how would he react if he becomes He Who Must Not Be Named again in his former network?

“If they decide to do that, then that’s their decision and I will respect it. You can look at it in so many ways. If they’re just protecting their talent, it’s a business decision on their part, so be it. You didn’t hear me complain about it then. But I want to think positive and consider that problem or issue as something that’s already over,” he conceded.

Piolo Pascual Denies Romancing Cristine Reyes

MANILA, Philippines – Piolo Pascual is too busy for love.

According to the actor, he is juggling far too many projects of late to be able to explore matters of the heart.

"I was segueing from one set to another. I finished shooting for ‘Every Breath [You Take’]. And then the TV show [‘Dahil Sa Pag-ibig’] and we’re also doing Star Magic movie to segue to Kris’s [Aquino] movie [‘Undo’]. So, I hardly have time for anything else," said he in a recent interview with PEP.

Because of his loaded schedule, rumors romantically linking him to “Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig” co-star Cristine Reyes is just that though he admits that they have gotten to know more of each other in the course of work.

"You know what, inevitable naman 'yan [his closeness with Reyes] sa trabaho, especially when you’re together every day sa soap," he said. "[Pero] hindi natin puwedeng bigyan ng malice yun.”

He added, “You know, I’ve always been a friend [to Reyes].”

The 35-year old hunk pooh-poohed the odds of this friendship blossoming into something more intimate, saying he respects Reyes’ beau, Rayver Cruz.

“I’m Rayver’s friend before I became Cristine’s friend. Matagal na kaming magkatrabaho ni Rayver. Mag-Kapamilya, magkapatid kami sa Star Magic,” he said.

Candid as he was in discussing seemingly inconsequential worries, Pascual was quick to lose himself in rhetoric when it comes to questions relating to his ex-girlfriend, KC Concepcion.

Asked if he is bothered with his name being constantly dragged into issues involving Concepcion, Pascual said, "I’m good. I mean I shouldn’t complain. It’s a blessing. It’s a blessing to be alive every day… to be waking up to a new day and having something worthwhile to do. So, it’s a blessing."

He went back to being outspoken when talking about the movie he is set to do with Aquino.

"We already had a preliminary meeting with Kris and Direk Chito [Rono] and Star Cinema. So we hope to start rolling in June," he said.

Pascual described the film as “serious.”

“A lot of people think it’s horror but it’s not," he said hinting that he and Aquino will have some steamy scenes for the movie.

"Mag-asawa [kami dito], so it’s quite legal," he explained.

Sister makes public appeal to give Ara and Cristine space

MANILA, Philippines – Heidi Reyes Gatmaitan, sister of warring actresses Ara Mina and Cristine Reyes, has voiced out how their family feels about the legal battle between the two allegedly brought about by unpaid debt.

“This has gained so much publicity to the damage of the family. Let us give them time to talk and settle their differences. We understand that both of them are hurting right now. We appeal to everyone to give them space so these matters can be cleared up and let the family patch things up,” Heidi said in a statement published on ABS-CBNNews.com, April 26.

The celebrity sisters caused media fanfare last week when Ara charged Cristine with libel and grave coercion. This was when Ara allegedly received “below-the-belt” text messages from Cristine, demanding her to pay up a debt amounting to more than a million, after they bought a townhouse in Quezon City last year for their mother.

But Heidi said, in another part of the statement as flashed on “TV Patrol” also on Thursday, that “there should be no issue about it [house].”

“Cristine already gave it to our mom. We are very positive this will end soon, pamilya pa din ang magtutulungan at magdadamayan kahit anong away pa iyan,” she continued.

Heidi claimed that no one in their family is taking sides because all of them love both equally.

“We know our sisters more than anyone else,” she was quoted as saying by ABS-CBNNews.com

Heidi believes that her two sisters are “nagkatampuhan lang, which is very common among siblings,” adding, “the whole family is very positive that this will end soon because in the end, pamilya pa din ang magtutulungan at magdadamayan kahit anong away at galit pa iyan.”

“The family, especially our mom, is saddened by this turn of events… We appeal to everyone to give them space so these matters can be cleared up and let the family patch things up,” she reiterated.

Ara already called for a press interview to address the issue Wednesday last week, while Cristine has yet to speak up on the matter.
