Russell Brand Offers Up His Take on the Dane Cook and Daniel Tosh Controversies

Comedians have not only been in the news a lot lately, but they've also been in hot water.

Daniel Tosh got heat for making a rape joke during a recent standup routine, while Dane Cook decided a week was long enough to make a poor attempt to turn the tragic Aurora shooting into a funny set. As a fellow comedian who is no stranger to controversy, Russell Brand has some opinions on the matter.

"Well, I think if someone's job is a comedian, and they say something, in the analysis of the content of their statement, you should recall that they're a comedian," he said at the TCA Press Tour. "I 've noticed that people have removed [the fact that they're comedians] from the analysis to create this storm of condemnation."

He added: "I don't know what Dane Cook and Daniel Tosh said, but I know they are comedians and they are nice human beings. So I can't imagine they had any intention other than eliciting laughter from their fellow human beings, as is their job."

Brand ended his take with this warning: "I don't think you should create a state where you're afraid to talk. That could have much worse consequences."

Later, Brand was asked about possible upcoming guests on his FX show BrandX with Russell Brand, and when the comedian admitted he didn't have any famous people in mind, someone offered up Sarah Palin. What would he ask her? His response simply cannot be described, only transcribed:

"I think we all know. I would go straight to the subtext. I think that the reason Sarah Palin has been so long-tolerated is because of that latent inquisition surrounding the vagina. People want to f--k her, don't they? That's why you tolerate the other stuff! The d--k don't lie!"

Realizing that was the sound bite we were all waiting for, Brand turned toward the lectern where FX head of PR John Solberg was standing and said: "John, you could have had me out of here before I said that! Now I just said I'd f--k Sarah Palin!"

Finally, a reporter couldn't resist bringing up Brand's sentence to perform community service in New Orleans for throwing a photog's phone through a window and asking what he'll be doing while he's there.

"I don't know, tidying up or something probably. I don't know what their format of community service is," he says. "It doesn't seem like a punishment, it seems like a duty. Community is a duty, service is an honor and I'll be happy to do it."

Brand did have to applaud the reporter for his attention to detail when asking about the incident. "I wish you'd been there in court. We could have done with your meticulous insight," he joked.

Ai Ai And Vice Ganda Bury The Hatchet

MANILA, Philippines - Comedians Ai Ai delas Alas and Vice Ganda have let bygones be bygones, smoking the proverbial peace pipe during the birthday celebration of ABS-CBN boss Cory Vidanes on May 15 in a bar in Makati.

Ai Ai and Vice were caught on cam together during the party, as shown in the videos aired on “TV Patrol” on May 16.

“Tita Cory I love you. Alam mong mahal kita,” came Ai Ai’s message for the birthday celebrator that evening.

In a report posted by PEP the same day, Ai Ai was asked how her reconciliation with the popular stand-up comedian happened.

Not wanting to divulge details, Ai Ai said, “Ay, ewan! Basta lang…bati na lang kami.”

Last January, Vice Ganda admitted there was a rift between him and Ai Ai, as reported in newspapers. The snubbing incident, which happened inside a hotel during the Christmas season, was apparently true.

“Totoo pong nangyari 'yon na hindi po kami nagpansinan ni Ms. Ai Ai sa isang lugar. ‘Di kami nagpansinan, ‘di ko siya pinansin, ‘di niya ako pinansin at walang pansinang naganap kasi mayroon po kaming pinagdadaanan," Vice Ganda revealed on “The Buzz.”

He hoped then that the issue between them would be resolved.

"Mayroon po kaming isyu na kinakailangang ma-resolba at nawa'y maresolba sa takdang panahon,” he said, adding that nobody has the right to pass judgment on them as “kami lang ni Ms. Ai Ai ang nakakaalam doon."

Meanwhile, actors Richard Gomez and Joey Marquez recalled their early beginning as ABS-CBN talents during the party of Ms. Vidanes.

Richard vividly remembers, “My first TV guesting [in a Kapamilya TV show] si tita Cory ‘yung P.A. (production assistant) namin noon.” Richard also added, “Through the years tita Cory has been very nice to me since so she’s very special.”

Joey, who shared with Richard stellar credits in the sitcom “Palibhasa Lalaki,” recalls, “‘Yung samahan namin sa “Palibhasa” [ay] para kaming naglalaro [lang] at magkakaibigan lahat.”

Among the ABS-CBN executive’s well wishers were Vice Ganda, Iza Calzado, Vina Morales, Gina Pareno, Randy Santiago, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Christian Bautista, Rayver Cruz, Cristine Reyes, and Ai Ai delas Alas who came with boyfriend Jed Alvin Salang.

"Tita Cory, sana mas marami pang blessing dumating sa buhay niyo, and ingat po kayo palagi, maraming salamat po sa inyo," Rayver said.

"Thank you for being such a nice boss to us," Cristine said.

Coney Reyes, who starred in her own drama series on ABS-CBN, gave her message: “[My wish for her is] to change for the better. She’s so sweet. I just pray that she will have more strength, good health, so much peace, so much love, so much joy and the wisdom to carry all on what God has purposed her to do in her life.”
