LOOK | Maine Mendoza supports Lumads

Maine Mendoza has voiced out her support for the Lumads, the indigenous peoples in Mindanao who have suffered brutal killings, harrassment and banishment from their ancestral lands.

The star of “Eat Bulaga’s” hugely popular “kalyeserye” segment, where she is known as Yaya Dub, did it her signature way — with a cue card that reads: “WE STAND W/ LUMADS #SAVE OUR SCHOOLS.”

Maine, one half of the phenomenal AlDub love team with Alden Richards, is the latest celebrity to call attention to the plight of the Lumads, following the example of her “kalyeserye” co-star Wally Bayola (as Lola Nidora), “Eat Bulaga” co-host Aiza Seguerra, as well ABS-CBN stars Angel Locsin and Luis Manzano.

Maine’s brother-in-law John Carlos Catalan, who is married to her eldest sibling Nikki, is the prime mover behind AlDub for Lumad, a group of AlDub fans that has mobilized support for Manilakbayan ng Mindanao 2015, a people’s caravan led by Lumad leaders that started on October 19 in Surigao City.

On Sunday morning, AlDub for Lumad held a breakfast with the Lumads in Liwasang Bonifacio.
