Commercial models boost Ford's January sales

MANILA - The Philippine unit of Ford Motor Co said sales last month more than doubled on the popularity of its commercial vehicles.

Ford Group Philippines sold 820 vehicles last month, up 123 percent from 367 units sold in the same month last year. January sales were slower, however, than last December's 1,298. Sales per model were as follows:

-- Everest, 239 units;

-- Ranger, 178 units;

-- Fiesta, 167 units;

-- Explorer, 123 units;

-- Focus, 95 units; and

-- Mustang, 18 units.

Ford Philippines president Randy Krieger said last month was the “strongest single month” for sales of compact car Focus in almost three years.

Sales of the best-selling five-door hatchback Fiesta, meanwhile, went up 17 percent year-on-year.

As for the iconic Ford Mustang, Krieger said 170 units have been delivered since the model was launched in the country last September.

Krieger said a new variant will be added to the Ranger lineup to boost sales. “[W]e’re looking forward to further expanding the all-new Ranger lineup with the range-topping Wildtrak at the Manila International Auto Show in April,” he said.

Dealerships will be opened in Baguio City, Bohol, General Santos City, Laoag City, Manila Bay and Zamboanga in the next six months, as Ford Philippines plans to mark the middle of 2013 with a 35-dealership network.

Ford Philippines last month opened its sixth full sales and service outlet in Makati.

“With more segment-leading One Ford vehicles coming to the Philippines and a growing network of authorized Ford dealerships, we remain absolutely committed to our One Ford plan and confident that we will take this even further in 2013,” Krieger said.
