SM Cebu celebrates Sinulog

MANILA, Philippines - SM City Cebu is celebrating Sinulog festival until Jan. 20 by showcasing the best of Cebu through exhibits, contests, street dancing, and by bringing some of the country’s hottest young talents to Cebu.

Traditionally held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City, Sinulog is named after the dance ritual in honor of the miraculous image of the Santo Nino.  The dance moves to the sound of the drums, and this resembles the current or sinulog of what then known as Cebu’s Pahina River.

SM City Cebu in partnership with the Sinulog Foundation brings back Cebu! Cebu!, a showcase of its best products and most talented artists and designers.  These include the stunning jewelry collections of Gladys Young; creative lamp designs by Hive; creative furniture display by sisters Paula and Vikki Rodriguez; exquisite clothes by designer Cary Santiago; and photos of the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod by master photographers Dan Douglas Ong and Dr. Erwin Lim.  The Cebu! Cebu! exhibit runs until Jan. 31 at the Northwing Atrium.

Shopping is also more fun during the festival with the ongoing Sinulog sale of up to 50 percent on selected items until Jan. 20.

Not to be missed is the 5th Sinulog fireworks competition on today, Jan. 19, at 8 p.m. fronting the Northwing.  Six pyrotechnic experts from all over the country will compete to for the grand prize of P100,000.  Participants will be judged according to the beauty, style, timing, and audience impact of their works. Pyrospectacular will also dazzle mall goers, as colorful fireworks are synchronized to music by Pyroworks International at 9 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Some of the country’s top young talents will be visiting the mall to join in the celebrations. The Blackberry Barkada — Enrique Gil, Gerald Andersen, and Rayver Cruz — will have a mall tour today 19 at the Event Center.  Aimee Torres, the singer behind the hit song Pusong Bato, will have a show on Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Event Center.
