Goober Pyle Actor George Lindsey Dies


Veteran Actor George Lindsey who is best known for his role as "Goober Pyle" on The Andy Griffith Show died early Sunday morning in Nashville after an extensive illness.


"George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit," Andy Griffith said in a statement.





George Lindsey grew up in Alabama and he went to Florence State Teachers College now called the University of North Alabama. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Biology and Physical Education. He had an extensive stage and television career that included a long run on Hee Haw. Lindsey also did the voice work in animated Walt Disney features which includes The Aristocats, The Rescuers, and Robin Hood.


According to reports Lindsey will be buried in his hometown of Jasper, Alabama but no plans have been made yet.
