BenQ releases flick free monitors

MANILA, Philippines — BenQ has released a new line of LCD monitors that the Taiwanese multinational electronics firm claims cause less eyestrain to its users.

The new monitors goes easy on the eyes through the company’s flick-free technology, which eliminates usual flickers or flashing effects, of conventional monitors.

“It’s really quite amazing that by spotting out a supposedly tiny issue and redesigning the controller to eliminate flickering, we are able to make a big difference as a whole,” Peter Chen, general manager of BenQ Technology Product Center, said.

Charlon Alcala, product group head of BenQ Philippines, said that they hope to amplify their comparative advantage in the market through the new technology.

“People don’t care about their eyehealth as they go after whatever is cheap without considering the long-term effects. We are trying to elevate the awareness of consumers that with the technology that we have,” Alcala said.

Alcala said that the new technology is very timely considering that many people nowadays log long hours on social networking sites.

Flicker, or flashing effect, occurs as the LED backlight controller of a monitor adjusts to the changes in brightness level. BenQ’s flicker-free monitors reportedly use a de-flickering backlight circuit controller to eliminate flickers.

“We hope that the flicker-free monitors will be our differentiator as right now, most of our competitors in the market are the same as they offer mostly conventional panels,” Alcala said.

The new flicker-free monitors will be initially made available for the 19 inch, 20 inch, 24 inch, and 27 inch LCD monitors.

Johnson Choi, BenQ market development director, said that they plan to roll out flicker-free technology across all their monitors for next year.

BenQ products are exclusively distributed in the Philippines by tech provider IonTech Enterprises.
