Couple accused of maltreating helper surfaces at NBI

A couple ordered arrested for allegedly maltreating their household helper surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation in Manila Monday.

Reynold and Analiza Marzan, who were charged for maltreating helper Bonita Baran, surfaced at the NBI before noon, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported.

The report quoted NBI Director Nonnatus Caesar Rojas as saying the couple had a lawyer with them when they arrived.

He added the couple will stay at the NBI for now, while the bureau coordinates with the office of Senate President Pro Tempore Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada.

Estrada had sought the arrest of the couple for maltreating their helper.

Last week, Vice President Jejomar Binay suggested that the government put up a bounty for the couple's arrest.

Binay noted the couple had gone into hiding after a Quezon City court issued a warrant for their arrest.

Earlier, Baran said her employers had hit her repeatedly with plates, vases and a broomstick. She added her female employer pressed a hot flat iron on her face, costing her her eyesight. — BM, GMA News
