More than 12 hours after an alleged attack by unidentified armed men, police remained clueless on the motive for the assault and the identities of the killers who shot dead -- with wounds to the head -- three security aides of businessman Bobby Aguirre of the family that owns Banco Filipino.
The three men, including one active-duty and one retired police officer, were killed in Aguirre’s home in Las Pinas City shortly before midnight Saturday, according to initial police reports on Sunday morning.
Initial reports showed that the incident was reported to police at about 11:38 p.m. at Pablo Roman Tropical Avenue, BF International.
The victims were identified as PO3 Luisito Makatunaw, SPO2 Melvin Padapa (retired), and David Mangguerra (security guard).
Chief Supt. Benito Estipona, district director of the Southern Police District, said unidentified armed men suddenly barged into Aguirre's compound and shot dead his three security escorts.
Aguirre, who was at the second floor of his house at that time, was unharmed.
Estipona said police have yet to determine the motive behind the incident but said they are following up some leads.
It also remains unclear if the target of the killing was actually Aguirre, Estipona said.
Each of the victims sustained gunshot wounds to the head.
