Baltimore awakes to aftermath of riots over black man's death in police custody

BALTIMORE -- Riot police stood guard on the smoldering streets of the US city of Baltimore Tuesday after protesters incensed by the death of a young black man in police custody went on the rampage, torching cars and buildings and looting stores.

Fires continued to burn in the mainly black northeastern city, where a curfew was set to take effect Tuesday evening after a day of riots that dragged on into Monday night.

The state of Maryland declared a state of emergency after rioters ransacked shops, making off with armloads of merchandise.

Schools were closed Tuesday a safety measure.

The full extent of the damage wrought in the latest American city, where simmering tensions over police treatment of young blacks have exploded, was likely to become clearer during the day.

City officials, black community leaders and the family of 25-year-old Freddie Gray expressed disgust over the degeneration of the protests following his funeral.

"Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs who, in a very senseless way, are trying to tear down what so many have fought for," Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said.

"It's idiotic to think that by destroying your city, you're going to make life better for anybody," she said.

TV footage showed one mother slapping her son repeatedly in the head and screaming at him for taking part in the unrest.

Thousands of police and National Guard troopers were deployed to back up beleaguered officers as the riots spread on Monday evening.

At least 27 people were arrested and 15 police injured in clashes with stone-throwing mobs -- many of them high school students -- who also attacked local businesses.

The Baltimore Sun newspaper, quoting police, reported two people injured in separate shootings. The police were not immediately available to confirm this.

The violence is the latest in a series of confrontations between US police and mainly young African American men enraged by what they see as racism in the force.

Last summer's fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri triggered coast-to-coast protests.

The unrest in Baltimore was sparked by the case of Freddie Gray, who died on April 19 of spinal injuries apparently suffered during his arrest earlier this month.

Despite appeals for calm from his family, roving gangs of youths fought pitched battles with police. Several news reporters were assaulted and had equipment stolen.

Police said they were combing through video footage to identify other possible offenders aside from those already arrested.

National Guard deployed

While most of the violence was in the west of the city, a large building on Baltimore's east side was also torched.

Maryland police superintendent Colonel William Pallozzi said he had ordered 500 police into the city and requested 5,000 more from the wider Mid-Atlantic region.

And National Guard commander Adjutant General Linda Singh said she had 5,000 troopers ready and would deploy them in "massive force" to protect people and property.

President Barack Obama was briefed on the rapidly evolving situation by Rawlings-Blake and his new Attorney General Loretta Lynch, the White House said.

The Baltimore Orioles baseball team cancelled its evening game.

The rioting erupted shortly after thousands of mourners gathered for Gray's funeral in New Shiloh Baptist church in the city's impoverished Sandtown neighborhood.

Before the service, a cryptic message circulated on social media called for an after-school "purge," street slang for random acts of lawlessness.

'Absolutely inexcusable'

Gray's grieving family had explicitly asked for no protests.

"Today of all days, the family was clear this was a day of sacred closure," said pastor Jamal Bryant, who delivered the eulogy.

At the funeral, Gray's white casket, which was surrounded by wreaths, lay next to a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap and a sign reading "Peace y'all."

Crowds swayed to hymns and chanted "justice shall prevail, peace will prevail."

Violence had also erupted on Saturday when 34 people were arrested and six police officers were injured after an orderly rally for Gray outside Baltimore city hall.

Police on Monday announced they had received a "credible threat" that criminal gangs in Baltimore had "entered into a partnership to 'take out' law enforcement officers."

Lawyers for Gray's family say his death, after a week in a coma, was caused by severe spinal injuries sustained following his arrest.

Six officers have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of a police investigation that is to be submitted to state prosecutors by Friday.

Police confirmed Gray had requested medical help and an inhaler after he was detained and have acknowledged he should have received medical attention sooner.

In video taken by bystanders, Grey can be heard howling in pain as his limp body is dragged into the van during his arrest.

Japanese porn star Maria Ozawa in town for ‘business’

Male fans of Magic 89.9 FM’s “Boys Night Out” were in for a surprise treat Monday when the popular evening radio talk show featured the world’s most famous Japanese porn star, Maria Ozawa, for the 9th anniversary of its #ManyakMonday shows.

Ozawa told “BNO” hosts Tony Toni, Slick Rick and Sam YG that she would be in town till Wednesday for some “business talks”. She is in Manila to sign a contract with Parallax Studios of photographer Wesley Villarica, who will represent her for projects in the Philippines.

Now 29, Ozawa joined the vibrant Japanese pornographic film industry in 2005 and starred in numerous adult video titles until 2011. She has since branched out into mainstream work in films, television and modeling not just in her native Japan but also in other Asian countries, including China, Taiwan, and Indonesia.

As disclosed by Karlo Samson, managing editor for UNO Magazine, Parallax hosted a dinner for Ozawa shortly after her arrival on Monday for a head shot photo session with the men’s magazine. She was also interviewed by UNO editor-in-chief RJ Ledesma for the magazine and for his Philippine Star column.

Ozawa also revealed in her personal Facebook page that she will appear in an upcoming issue of another men’s magazine, FHM Philippines.

During her 35-minute “Boys Night Out” interview, the half-Canadian spoke fluent English and candidly answered the probing and often naughty questions of the show’s three hosts.

She said that she started appearing in adult videos when she was only 18. “I went to this place to audition and I wanted to become a star,” she recalled.

Being an adult video star, she said that it was hard for her to have a real relationship although she admitted that she tends to fall in love with her co-workers or leading men sometimes.

“It’s one hundred percent real. You can’t be faking it,” she said in response to a question by Tony Toni as to whether her sex scenes, including her expressions and moaning, were just acted out.

Ozawa, however, also revealed that her days as an adult video actress are over since she had already “quit the industry” and is now working on her own.

“I own a bar in Tokyo, Japan in the Shinjuku tourist area. I do dancing, I do club events, I go to (countries like) China, Taiwan to do movies,” she added.

In movies, she means mainstream movies. She also does photo shoots for magazines as well as TV commercials. A business card she gave Samson states that she is president of Lilly Promotion Co. Ltd. In Japan.

Does she miss ever working on adult videos?

“It was a good memory. Sometimes, I miss it. But not to the point where I’ll come back doing it again,” she quipped.

‘FIGHT OF THE CENTURY’ | Big hype, huge money for Pacquiao-Mayweather megabout

The countdown is on to Saturday’s showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, the $400 million “fight of the century” with a place in boxing’s pantheon of greats on the line.

More than five years in the making, it’s an epic clash of styles and personalities, pitting the craftsmanship and defensive savvy of “Money” Mayweather against explosive southpaw Pacquiao — an iconic figure in his native Philippines.

The welterweight world title unification bout looks set to smash boxing records for worldwide viewership and revenue, with Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum predicting it could generate as much as $400 million.

With a 60-40 purse split in favor of Mayweather, the unbeaten American stands to make an eye-watering $150 million and Pacquiao $100 million.

Fanned by instant Internet publicity and social media, global interest in the contest has skyrocketed.

The precious 500 tickets for seats at the 16,800-capacity MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas that were put on sale directly to the public at face values ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 sold out in minutes.

Promoters are even selling 10,000 tickets to Friday’s weigh-in, at $10 a pop.

The audience on fight night will read like a who’s who of A-list celebrities, casino high-rollers and others with the wherewithal to snaffle tickets that are going at secondary sales outlets such as StubHub for as much as $100,000.

The staggering financial figures and celebrity sideshows have only boosted the fight’s cross-over appeal.

The build-up has focused on such minutiae as Mayweather’s custom-made mouth guard, infused with diamonds and gold, and the $2 million-plus Pacquiao will rake in for advertising on his trunks.

Clash of characters

But once all that is stripped away, it will be up to the two men in the ring to deliver on the hype, in a duel that many feel has passed its sell-by date.

“The only thing the fighters can do is go out there and perform, and do what we do best,” says Mayweather, who brings an impeccable 47-0 record with 26 knockouts to the bout, along with the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight world titles.

Mayweather, trained by his father Floyd Sr. and continuing a family boxing legacy that stretches back for decades, is closing in on the iconic 49-0 record of 1950s legend Rocky Marciano, who retired as an undefeated heavyweight champion.

The American has held 11 titles in five weight divisions, his untarnished record and unabashed swagger making him the highest-paid sportsman in the world, according to Forbes.

Underlining his gift for provocative self-promotion, Mayweather last week compared himself favorably to heavyweight icon Muhammad Ali.

“I know there will be a backlash, but I couldn’t care less,” Mayweather said.

But beneath the glitzy surface runs a darker Mayweather story, studded by incidents of domestic violence.

It only makes Mayweather the perfect foil for Pacquiao, beloved in the Philippines as a humble humanitarian who has put his own womanizing ways behind him with a return to his Christian faith.

A lover of music and basketball, Pacquiao is a two-term congressman who many predict will one day be president of the Philippines.

At 38, Mayweather is two years older than World Boxing Organization champion Pacquiao, who is nevertheless considered the more ring-worn of the two, with his record of 57-5 with two drawn and 38 knockouts.

The only fighter to win eight world titles in as many weight divisions, Pacquiao’s stock plummeted with two defeats in 2012, including a crushing one-punch knockout by Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez. There were rumors of impending retirement.

He has since won three fights, although in his last bout, in November, he was unable to finish off Chris Algieri despite knocking him down six times.

Pacquiao hasn’t knocked out an opponent since a TKO of Miguel Cotto in 2009 — the same year he crushed Ricky Hatton in two rounds.

Mayweather’s last knockout win was back in 2011 and he too has showed signs of ring-wear, though that has not stopped him going into the fight as the favorite.

Big, but how big?

Even so, the bout tantalizingly brings together two of the most talented fighters of their generation in a clash that recalls such past classics as Joe Frazier’s victory over Ali in 1971, the first fight of their epic trilogy.

“The whole country stopped,” the promoter Arum recalled of the immense interest in that fight at Madison Square Garden.

Whether Pacquiao-Mayweather will surpass Ali-Frazier — or any other “fight of the century” — in lasting significance is immaterial, Arum said.

“This fight is tremendous,” he said. “The interest is tremendous. And we should really wrap ourselves around that fact rather than compare it to fights of another era.

“One thing is clear: it’s the biggest fight of this century.”

Low-key launch as Apple Watch finally goes on sale

TOKYO — Apple Watch launched globally on Friday with a small queue of Japanese tech-addicts lining up in Tokyo for Apple Inc’s first wearable gadget, but there was no sign of the excitement usually attached to the company’s product rollouts.

Buyers can take the smartwatch home from a handful of upscale boutiques and department stores, including The Corner in Berlin, Maxfield in Los Angeles and Dover Street Market in Tokyo and London, which Apple courted to help position the watch as a fashion item.

But the gadget will not be sold at Apple stores on Friday. The company is directing people to order online instead, which should prevent the long lines of Apple devotees who typically flock to iPhone and iPad launches.

About 50 people lined up to buy the watch at electronic store Bic Camera in Tokyo’s Ginza district, while at the nearby Apple Store it was like any other Friday, according to Reuters reporters at the shops.

“I buy one or two Apple products every time they release something new,” Chiu Long, a 40-year-old IT worker from Taiwan, told Reuters while queuing up at Bic Camera.

“I like to run, so the heart rate reader is a progress,” he added.

At a retail outlet of mobile carrier SoftBank Corp around 20 people queued to get their hands on the gadget.

“I want to develop my own application that’s compatible with the smartwatch,” 27-year-old IT worker Tatsuya Omori said as he waited in line outside the store.

“I’m also an Apple fan. I simply want it.”

Technology lovers and investors keen to find out the components of the watch were left frustrated, with a tough resin coating protecting the core computing module from scrutiny.

Gadget repair firm iFixit, which has successfully prised open other Apple products on their launch day to reveal their components, said the U.S. company also appeared to be promoting its brand on the watch’s inner workings, complicating detailed analysis of the parts’ origins.

Gauging demand

The lack of queues at Apple stores will make it hard to judge popular demand for the watch, which comes in 38 variations with prices ranging from $349 for the Sport version to $10,000 and more for the gold Edition.

Apple has not released any numbers since it opened for pre-orders on April 10, although many buyers were told their watches would not arrive for a month or more as supply appeared to dry up.

Wall Street estimates of Apple Watch sales vary widely. FBR Capital Markets analyst Daniel Ives raised his sales estimate this week to 20 million watches from 17 million, based in part on online order backlogs.

“There was a question over whether the trajectory and demand for wearables in the Apple ecosystem was there and real,” said Ives. “But it’s a resounding yes.”

Apple itself said on Wednesday that some customers will get watches faster than promised.

“Our team is working to fill orders as quickly as possible based on the available supply and the order in which they were received,” Apple said in a statement.

The Cupertino, California company previously predicted that demand would exceed supply at product launch.

Microsoft to launch first flagship store outside US in Sydney

SYDNEY, Australia — Microsoft on Tuesday said it will open its first flagship store outside the United States in Sydney, as the technology giant expands its physical footprint to take on global rivals Apple and Samsung.

Microsoft Australia’s managing director Pip Marlow said the shop, to be located in Sydney’s main Pitt Street shopping district, was a “significant development” for the American firm.

“This is a significant development for our business locally as well as globally,” Marlow said in a statement on the company’s website.

“This will be much more than a store. It will embody the world class innovation that you have come to expect from Microsoft and be a space where consumers… can visit and learn how to make the most of their technology.”

A flagship store is commonly seen as a way for firms to showcase their brand’s products and have more recently been adopted by technology companies keen to establish direct contact with their customers in large, downtown outlets.

The store will be just several hundred metres from Apple’s flagship shop and a Samsung outlet, and will reportedly take up 581 square metres (6,254 square feet) over two floors.

Marlow did not say when it would open but The Australian Financial Review said it would be in time to capture the busy Christmas shopping period.

The Redmond, Washington-based company announced last year its first flagship store would be on Fifth Avenue in New York.

The firm has 110 physical stores in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico and 17 store-in-store locations in China. Along with the flagship shops, they are a reflection of Microsoft’s push towards a more visible presence.

Apple said in March it has 453 physical stores in 16 countries.

Microsoft is seeking to take on the mobile operating systems space dominated by Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. The Windows operating system for PCs, which was launched in the 1990s, has been a cash cow for Microsoft, but the platform is lagging in mobile.

Microsoft has also launched its own mobile devices such as Surface tablets and Lumia smartphones.

Circus troupe captures Cambodia's contorted history

SIEMP REAP, Cambodia - Balancing on her hands, a young contortionist throws her legs over her head and slowly draws back a bow with her toes, before releasing off an arrow into a balloon covered by a black shroud.

The balloon bursts and the audience erupts into applause in recognition of the artistry of the feat, but also at the symbolic puncturing of the terrors of the murderous Khmer Rouge era that eviscerated Cambodia in the late 1970s.

Pin Phunam, 23, who plays the title role in the circus show "Sokha", says every movement aims to tell the story of a period of recent history she did not live through, but that hangs over her country.

An estimated two million Cambodians died under the Khmer Rouge between 1975-1979.

"People don't talk about the Khmer Rouge, I don't know why. Maybe it is too painful," Phunam says before the show, which explores the country's bloody past using a group of jugglers, acrobats, and contortionists in the northwestern tourist town of Siem Reap.

On April 17 the nation marked the 40th anniversary of the triumphant march of communist soldiers into the Cambodian capital, ending a bloody civil war with a US-backed general.

But the date also signaled the start of a hardline rule that turned the nation into a workhouse where starvation, murder, and overwork killed a quarter of the population.

While the performers from the circus troupe were born long after the regime fell, they have mesmerized audiences with their recreation of that period since first staging Sokha two years ago.

"Even though we don't have any experience of the Khmer Rouge regime, we can tell the story through our artistic skills," Phunam told AFP.

From poverty to Big Top

Instead, like many of the artists from the Phare Ponleu Selpak Circus School, she draws on difficult experiences of her own.

Phunam was born to a poor family in western Battambang province and spent her childhood scavenging for junk to sell.

"I had a drunken and violent father... I saw my father fighting with my mum every night after he came back from drinking and gambling with friends," she said.

Then, when she was just seven, Phunam joined the nearby Phare Ponleu Selpak school run by former Cambodian refugees to help disadvantaged local youngsters through art.

It was there she discovered her passion for contortion and the expert help to hone her extraordinary skill.

A free public school founded after the art center now teaches 1,200 pupils.

Just under half of them attend the specialist music, art, theater, and circus schools providing rare opportunities to children from poor families in one of Southeast Asia's least developed countries.

In 2013 Phare opened a circus in the tourist hub of Siem Reap, home to Cambodia's famed Angkor temple complex, to give its graduates a global stage.

"We decided to open this Big Top (circus tent) as a professional venue for the artists who graduated from Battambang to earn a living," said circus operation manager Xavier Gobin.

'Circus changed my life'

Gobin, a former ballet dancer from France who moved to Cambodia eight years ago, has also taken the troupe on tour around the world from Japan to Italy.

Tackling "social issues or themes profound in Cambodian society" lies at the heart of their shows, he said.

Circus performance in Cambodia dates back to the Angkorian period, which lasted from the ninth to the 15th Century, with acrobatic performances etched into carvings on the walls of temples at Siem Reap.

Civil war and the Khmer Rouge destroyed the art and today performers like Phunam are determined to revive it.

"The circus changed my life... I can do difficult things that normal people cannot do," said the contortionist, adding it was not only her livelihood but a medium to help her understand her own country.

Nearly 170 kilometers (100 miles) away at Phare's circus school in Battambang, where Phunam first started her journey, dozens of aspiring young artists are beginning their own.

Perfecting somersaults or balancing their entire body weight on one hand, a new cohort are practicing mind-boggling tricks they hope will change their lives.

"I came here because I want to become a professional circus artist," said 17-year-old orphan Phat Sreyleak.

"I want to perform abroad... I want to show foreigners my talent," she said before returning to her trapeze.

Shorter height directly linked to higher risk of heart disease - study

WASHINGTON -- The shorter you are, the more your risk of coronary heart disease, according to a new study out Wednesday that attributed the link in part to genetics, rather than purely to nutrition or lifestyle factors.

The study, published online in the U.S. journal New England Journal of Medicine, examined 180 genetic variants that affect height in almost 200,000 persons with or without coronary heart disease, which is the commonest cause of premature death worldwide.

It showed that for every change in height of 6.5 cm caused by these variants the risk of coronary heart disease changed on average by 13.5 percent.

"The more height increasing genetic variants that you carry the lower your risk of coronary heart disease and conversely if you were genetically shorter the higher your risk," Christopher Nelson, one of the researchers from Britain's University of Leicester said, in a statement.

For example, compared to a 1.68-meter tall person, a 1.52-meter tall person on average has a 32 percent higher risk of coronary heart disease because of their relatively shorter stature.

Lead author Sir Nilesh Samani, professor of cardiology at the University of Leicester, said: "For more than 60 years it has been known that there is an inverse relationship between height and risk of coronary heart disease."

"Now, using a genetic approach, researchers ... have shown that the association between shorter height and higher risk of coronary heart disease is a primary relationship and is not due to confounding factors," Samani said.

Coronary heart disease is the condition where the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle become narrowed due to a deposition of fatty material, or plaque, in the walls of the arteries. If a blood clot forms over the plaque then the artery can become completely blocked suddenly giving rise to a heart attack.

The researchers said further exploration of genes that affect height may suggest new ways to reduce the risk of heart disease.

"While we know about many lifestyle factors such as smoking that affect risk of coronary heart disease, our findings underscore the fact that the causes of this common disease are very complex and other things that we understand much more poorly have a significant impact," Samani said.

"While our findings do not have any immediate clinical implications, better and fuller understanding of the biological mechanisms that underlie the relationship between shorter height and higher risk of coronary heart disease may open up new ways for its prevention and treatment."

Snowden warns US still intercepts intimate emails

WASHINGTON — Americans might oppose intrusive surveillance if they realized the government can see their most intimate emailed pictures, comic John Oliver suggested to fugitive intelligence technician Edward Snowden.

The British television host scored a rare one-on-one interview in Moscow with the notorious former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor for Sunday’s edition of his weekly US cable comedy news show “John Oliver Tonight.”

Oliver didn’t give the man behind one of the biggest leaks in US intelligence history an easy ride, insisting he must take responsibility for information in press reports that put current anti-terror operations in jeopardy.

But he also expressed sympathy with Snowden’s efforts to trigger a public debate about the balance to be struck in a free society between the security provided by blanket surveillance and the public’s right to privacy.

And he suggested a crude but perhaps effective way to focus public attention on the issue.

“This is the most visible line in the sand for people: ‘Can they see my dick?’” Oliver said, suggesting that the NSA’s Internet surveillance could intercept emailed photographs of a private or sexual nature.

Snowden laughed but played along with the line of thought, describing in some detail how the various intelligence gathering authorities and techniques that he revealed in a trove of leaked NSA documents could violate the private realm.

“The good news is that there’s no program named the ‘dick pic’ program. The bad news: they are still collecting everybody’s information — including your dick pics,” Snowden said.

In June, the US Congress must vote on whether to renew the provisions of the Patriot Act, a law which was passed in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks to boost the US government’s security powers.

The law has been renewed without great debate in the past, but in May 2013 Snowden leaked a massive haul of secret NSA documents to journalists that raised concerns about the scope and misuse of state surveillance at home and abroad.

Judge orders Facebook, Zuckerberg to turn over documents

NEW YORK — Facebook and its founder must release documents and electronic correspondence to a defense lawyer whose client has fled from criminal charges that he falsely claimed a majority ownership in the social media giant, a federal judge said.

U.S. District Judge Vernon Broderick on Friday ordered Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg to relinquish documents by Monday that were requested by Paul Ceglia's lawyer, Robert Ross Fogg.

The judge said he received a letter Thursday from lawyers for Facebook Inc. and Zuckerberg asking that an order he issued earlier in the week to promptly turn over requested documents be suspended until Ceglia is caught.

Documents requested include all electronic communications Zuckerberg had about a Ceglia contract during an 18-month stretch beginning in 2003.

With a May 4 trial approaching, Ceglia cut off his electronic ankle bracelet last month and fled. His wife, two children and dog also are missing from their home in Wellsville, 70 miles (112 kilometers) southeast of Buffalo.

Ceglia's father told Broderick at a hearing last week that he believed his son might have fled because he believed Facebook and Zuckerberg were working together with prosecutors against him, jeopardizing his chance for a fair trial. The judge said he would not allow a trial to proceed unjustly.

Federal prosecutors had urged Broderick not to force Facebook and Zuckerberg to turn over the documents, saying doing so would "reward Ceglia's flouting of the judicial process while unreasonably drawing on the resources of the government and the authority of the court."

The criminal case against Ceglia was brought after a judge threw out his 2010 civil lawsuit claiming that he gave Zuckerberg, a student at Harvard University at the time, $1,000 in startup money in exchange for 50 percent of the future company.

Prosecutors said a forensic analysis of his computers and Harvard's email archive determined Ceglia had altered an unrelated software development contract he signed with Zuckerberg in 2003 and falsified emails to make it appear Zuckerberg had promised him a half-share of Facebook.

Zuckerberg has said he didn't come up with the idea for Facebook until months after he responded to Ceglia's online help-wanted ad and signed a contract agreeing to create some software for him.

A lawyer for Facebook and Zuckerberg did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday on the judge's order. Neither did a spokesman for government attorneys nor Fogg.

Fogg said in an email Wednesday that he and others "continue to fight for Paul, even in his absence, with the same vigor and fortitude and in a sense — more determined than ever."

Winged, waterproof, wicked

MANILA, Philippines - Winged, waterproof, wicked and wonderful. Undeniably, the eyeliner wickedly transforms not just one’s eyes but ultimately one’s face.

International celebrity blogger Nicole Warne, a.k.a. Gary Pepper Girl, keeps her makeup to a bare minimum but never without her statement thick, black liner that dramatically opens up and defines her Asian eyes.

Up-and-coming makeup artist to the stars Mayesa delos Santos, who’s worked on faces like Georgina Wilson, Iza Calzado, Maja Salvador, Julia Barretto, Kim Chiu and Sarah Lahbati, to name a few, has also worked with our very own digital darling, Kim Jones on her wedding to actor and singer Jericho Rosales. Kim certainly knows a thing or two about liners as her preferred sultry wingtip liner beautifully juxtaposes her sweet, wholesome look.

Mayesa shares, “When it comes to her (Kim) winged eyeliner look, she likes her liner to start near the middle of her eye then droop at the edge of her eye before extending upward, creating a winged-eyeliner effect.”

Here are Mayesa’s tips on how to get your eyeliner game down to perfection:

1. When buying eyeliner, test it first by applying at the back of your palm, leave for few seconds until it dries and try to wash it with soap to see if it won’t smudge or come off easily.

In selecting your desired color, it’s best if you buy an extremely black hue or any color with its maximum pigment.

2. Set your eyeliner with the same shade of eyeshadow to make it last longer.

3. “Tightlining” trick is the best to achieve a natural look. Instead of lining your eyes above your eyelashes, apply the liner in between your lashes.
