Matteo Guidicelli picks triathlon over go-kart racing for now

BORACAY, Aklan – Fil-Italian actor Matteo Guidicelli didn’t even bat an eyelash in announcing that he’s absolutely done with being a racer.

Recall that last year, the 22-year-old actor, who has had a promising career on the tracks, declared that he’s trading his karter’s hat for celebrity’s hat. Now, it seems that he's staying firm with his decision.

However, in an interview with Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the press during the 15th Nestea Beach Volleyball event here on April 19, Matteo clarified that he has simply switched from go-kart racing to becoming a triathlete.

“No more na. I’m doing triathlon na so I’m always training for that,” shared the young actor-TV host.

He excitedly added that he did three triathlons already, the most recent of which was the “Vaseline Men XTerra Weekend” early this month, where he finished as 2nd runner-up after competing in the 500m swimming, 30k biking and 5k run.

According to Matteo, he’s inherent sport-mindedness and competitiveness stems from when he was very young.

“Yeah, yeah. Very very competitive. I grew up as an athlete because I’ve always been into sports and now I’m still doing sports,” said he.

Prior to becoming a racer—which, by the way, he started at age 11—Matteo was into soccer.

“I guess I was brought up being competitive, being sports-minded so parang hinahanap talaga ng katawan ko na always sports,” Matteo enthused.

Although he seems perfectly wired to become a sports enthusiast, Matteo shared that it was his Dad who sparked his love for athletics.

“He’s very competitive din. He loves being active all the time. He pushes me all the time,” explained Matteo.

Since his Dad drove him to love sports, Matteo somehow “paid it forward,” in turn, engaging his girlfriend Maja Salvador to try her hand at doing physical activities.

“I bring her to the gym all the time. We do boxing and stuff and running. I promised she’s not gonna get dark so she has to run 4:30p.m. onwards or in the morning or in the gym,” said he.

Matteo together with Maja, Jake Cuenca, Bianca Manalo, Karylle, Rafael Rosell, Erich Gonzales and Derek Ramsay are the celebrity guests at the 15th Nestea Beach Volleyball event happening in Boracay from April 19-21.
